Video: Snowmaking Begins!

So here it is – the moment you’ve all been waiting for! Snowmaking started last night with Barrett’s Boys doing a number on Orion’s, the top of Comet and the top of the Gondola (TOG) area. The snowmaking combined with the new snow (as much as five inches over the weekend) means that November 21 is looking more and more solid as our opening date.

As you may have heard me say before, Heavenly has the largest snowmaking system on the West Coast – no other TWO resorts can match the power and efficiency of our snowmaking operation. What does that mean for you? The best early-season conditions Tahoe has to offer, with consistent, reliable snow surfaces perfect for carving and getting your ski and snowboard legs under you for the heart of the winter. It also means skiing or riding with your “gamers” and not resorting to “rock skis” in the early season.

Special thanks go to our VP of Mountain Operations, Casey Blann, for letting us use his truck to access the snow. Our videographers, Dane and Chris, are whiz kids when it comes to video, not so much when it comes to chaining up. Thanks, Boss!

And have I mentioned that season passes are on sale? You’ll be the envy of all your friends as you “schuss” down the slopes while they’re waiting for other resorts to open. Put November 21 on your calendar. We’ll see you on the mountain!

I better get serious about ski conditioning, since you brought out the big guns! I picked up my new pass yesterday and can’t wait for the lifts to turn.

    That’s great !

Now, how about some snow reports ? I see snow coming down there. Many of us have waited 6 months or better and would love someone to put a yard stick in the ground.

And some possible open dates would be good too !

Thank you to everyone involved in the snow making and all the hard work in getting Heavenly open. I get excited every year about this time, but am more excited than ever this year as this will be our first year of retirement, and we plan to spend every week day we can at Heavenly. I AM STOKED!!! Oh, I agree with Lee about knowing how much snow you have before you actually open; I would love that.

Nice work Heavenly! Hey, if anyone has not been to Heavenly on opening day before, be prepared to have your expectations far exceeded. Staff, facilities, and most likely a small park will be top notch. This ain’t no sierra cement either. It is high quality and no rocks (still not sure how they make it so nice). Oh and did I mention a long long run for the first day with an express quad!! Well worth the drive up.

  13. Matt Says:
