Heavenly Takes Summer Sightseeing Experience To New Heights

Written Thursday, June 25th, 2009 by Russ

There’s a new family adventure for hikers and sightseers who visit Heavenly this summer! It’s called the Summit Ticket and it allows the holder to ride Tamarack Express the rest of the way to the summit for the 360-degree views of Lake Tahoe, the Desolation Wilderness and the Carson Valley.

For the explorers out there, we’ve also got the Summit Ticket Eco Walk, which takes a group of up to 15 guests on a 1.5-mile guided walk where a Heavenly Eco Ranger teaches participants about Lake Tahoe, its native plants, wildlife and people.

Here’s a photo of the lunch spot:

Video: The Bird Chronicles Webisode 2

Written Wednesday, November 5th, 2008 by Russ

Hey, gang. Our critically-acclaimed webisode, “The Bird Chronicles,” is back with another fun look at our two local Lake Tahoe skiers vying for the sacred first chair on Gunbarrel. In this episode, Ty and Brandon struggle with their camp set up and The Bird finds it in his old, withered heart to impart some wisdom.

If you missed the first episode, view it here.

And if you want more info on the Heavenly Passholder Club, it’s right here.

Bird Sighting

Hey, gang. You might have already seen this in the HeavenlyTV portion of the site, but I wanted you all to check out “The Bird Chronicles” webisodes. It’s a fun look at small ski town culture following the escapades of up-and-coming locals Ty and Brandon as they try to outwit the venerable “Bird” to grab first chair of the year on Gunbarrel.

Hope you guys enjoy the video! Keep an eye out for future “Bird Chronicles” in this space, on HeavenlyTV, or where ever you get your ski and ride video!

Snowmaking is set to begin this weekend! Who’s ready for some SNOW?!!!

October Snow = Big Winter?

Written Friday, October 10th, 2008 by Russ

Hey, gang. So here’s the interesting stat of the day: Historically, when Heavenly receives five inches or more of snow in October, for the season, we typically end up 30 inches over the average season. In English: We’re right up against the five-inch barrier, so expect lots of snow this winter! If I’m you, and I’m reading this at home, I’d click this link to go buy my Heavenly or Epic Pass.

Today’s snow reached Lake level, so Dane got some cool shots down at the Village - check it out:

And now we’re just THREE WEEKS, or 21 days, before snowmaking starts! I heard Barrett and the guys over the radio switching out nozzles and testing pumps today.

Winter is on the way people! ARE YOU READY?!

South Lake Tahoe Earth Day Today

Written Saturday, April 19th, 2008 by Mark Rudyk

Heavenly Mountain Resort is honored to be a sponsor of this year’s South Lake Tahoe Earth Day Festival this Saturday, April 19th from 10am – 5pm at MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa. Bring the family to learn about ways to counteract global climate change through recycling/composting, alternative energy, water conservation, sustainability, and reducing our ecological footprint. Rock out to Jamie Janover & LYNX, Absynth, Ten Cent Lure, Moonshine String Posse, Moo-Got-2, Ancient I’s, Ladymoon, and Trevor Green (This year’s stage will be powered by biodiesel powered generators). Check out educational booths, conservation activities, and Washoe culture. Food and beverages will be available to purchase, and a special Kid’s Area with story time, face painting, hands-on activities, bouncy house and a push-pull-pedal eco-costume parade will delight the young ones. Admission is free.

Waste reduction will be emphasized through the Zero Waste program. Booth participants are requested to minimize discardable handouts and implement other forms of waste reduction. All food vendors will be using biodegradable take-out containers made of either paper or a high tech cornstarch-based plastic. Food and biodegradable waste will be collected and composted by Full Circle Compost in Minden, Nevada. Facts and figures on American waste will be placed throughout the Event.

Central to this year’s celebration is the Clothes Swap where you pay a one dollar admission to participate. Please bring clothes that are clean and in good condition with no stains or holes (please NO under garments i.e.: underwear, bras, bathing suits, etc…) and please NO shoes & socks. You will receive one ticket per piece of clothing you bring (ten tickets maximum per person). Clothes swappers will then get to choose one piece of clothing from the accumulated clothing, accompanied by a ticket. If you don’t see any clothes that you like right away, no problem – you can go enjoy the festivities and come back to swap later.

The Kids Push-Pull-Pedal Eco Parade will be returning this year. Grab your wagon, bike, scooter or cart; anything that rolls, but does not require a motor start. Decorate it with colors and funny shaped things; hook on a horn, bells or whistles and parade it around! Also, kids are urged to wear a wacky & wild eco-themed costume. Fun prizes will be awarded! Pedal lovers of all ages can delight in the excitement of the raffle with a Grand Prize Beach Cruiser!!!
