Primal Quest Expedition is Coming to Tahoe

Primal Quest, an epic expedition adventure race, will return to Tahoe August 20th through the 28th. What is this Primal Quest you might ask? It’s essentially the Olympics of adventure racing, pitting teams against each other over 450+ miles of running, biking, paddling and climbing, with nine days to complete the challenge (the fastest teams are expected to finish in about four days). Co-ed teams of four ridiculously athletic people work together through night navigation, white water paddling, rappelling and orienteering, which you can check out in their Tahoe 2015 video. The athletes are real people, if you can believe it, and not superheroes dressed in spandex—there are even some Tahoe locals on the roster!

The event will start in South Lake Tahoe, where athlete teams will be transported to an undisclosed location to begin the race. Primal Quest was last hosted in Lake Tahoe in 2003, and since then has made its way all over the country to Moab, Montana and the Badlands of South Dakota. Since you won’t be able to catch all the backcountry action, Outside Television will cover the event to broadcast nationwide this fall. In the meantime, if you see any extraordinarily athletic people wandering around South Lake Tahoe, ask them if they are doing Primal Quest! Even if they aren’t, they will surely be flattered. Or, if you yourself fit into that category of awesomeness, get your cohorts together and register. There are still a few spots open…
