It was a dark and stormy evening in Tahoe…and the ideal time to post up by the fireplace for “Captain’s Hour” at The Fresh Ketch. Tuesday through Saturday from 3-6 pm, this lakeside spot at the Tahoe Keys Marina rocks great food and drink specials. On a scale of 1-5, here is how we rated The Fresh Ketch:
Food: The food was typical fried bar fare, nothing mind-blowing, but priced accordingly at $5-9 per item. We ordered the zucchini sticks, garlic fries and coconut shrimp. The servings were generous and most broke down perfectly for our group of 6.
Drink: We ran the gamut of drink orders, from draft beer to wine to Beach Runners to whiskey on the rocks. House wine was $5, draft beer and well drinks were $1 off and Beach Runners were $5. The draft beer selection was fantastic, including some of my favorites like Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA and Dead Guy Ale. Yummm.
Value: The value was spot on, especially for such a great location.
Service: Corey, the bar tender, was the only one running the place when we first arrived, and he was very attentive and friendly.
Fun: The East Coasters in our group were swept away by a wave of nostalgia when we walked in. Maybe it was the dismal weather, but the place felt like a cozy ocean side bar on Cape Cod. The fireplace was blazing behind our table, and although the place was quiet when we first arrived, people steadily arrived and mellow live music got going soon after.
We had a great evening at the Fresh Ketch, and definitely plan to go back. Oh and by the way…they have backgammon tables.
