The whole world is a stage, Shakespeare says in As You Like It, and very few performance spaces are as scenic as what the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival has built in Sand Harbor.
The 2014 Shakespeare Festival is underway and features nightly shows until August 24. It’s a happy night: digging your toes into the sand, watching world class actors with the sun setting over the lake behind them, a bottle of wine leaning against your leg. The evening will take you from Tahoe to Arden with Orlando and Rosaline and then back again. The cast gave some of the Shakespearian dialogue a modernization that makes the story easy to follow.
Some tips for making the most out of your night:
-Free parking at Sand Harbor starts at 5pm. Get there right on time and you’ll have a few hours to relax on the beach before the show.
-Bring enough bread+cheese/snacks/wine to share with the people around you. Food and drinks are available from Shakespeare’s Kitchen if you forget anything.
-Don’t hurry away after the show, some of the cast might stick around to hang out and answer questions.
-The venue is staffed by volunteers. Show your thanks and help clean up after yourself.
-The festival asks that you do not take any pictures, so you can leave your camera at home.
