Celebrity Golf 2014 is Coming

Get your cameras and popcorn ready. The 25th annual American Century Championship is headed to Edgewood- right near the base of Heavenly- from July 15 to 20. With a $600,000 purse and national TV coverage, it’s the biggest celebrity golf tournament of the year.

Who is playing? Professional athletes and entertainers with a USGA handicap of 10 or better are eligible. This year’s field includes NBA hall of famer Charles Barkley, Brian Baumgartner from The Office, Steph Curry from the Golden State Warriors, John Elway, Greg Maddox, Bode Miller, Olympic hockey star TJ Oshie, former vice president Dan Quayle and many more. Check out the full list and let us know who you’re most excited to see.

Last year’s event turned into a showdown between former event champs: Billy Joe Tolliver (a 4x winner) defeated Mark Rypien for the win. The 2014 field will include one of the LPGA’s all time greats: Anika Sorenstam. Can any of the men beat her? We’ll find out in two weeks, but the local sports books are betting “No.”

You can watch from the course, the beach, the water, or if you party too hard you can watch on NBC from your hotel. You can mix exploring and spectating with long range views of Edgewood from the Heavenly Gondola and some of the casino restaurants.

Want to play? Check out the Celebrity-Am event on Tuesday. Amateurs are partnered with celebs from the weekend field to play a round of golf at Edgewood plus breakfast, a gift bag, awards luncheon, and tickets to the rest of the event.

You can also volunteer at the tournament as a marshal, walking scorer, standard bearer, or other positions. Check out the application here.

A ticket to watch the entire tournament costs $60 or you can purchase daily tickets. Tuesday through Thursday cost $15.00 per day and are your best chances to take a selfie with your favorite player. Friday, Saturday and Sunday tickets are $25.00 per day. Two children (10 or under) can come free with each paid adult ticket.
