New Restaurants for Summer 2014


Local favorite Artemis Mediterranean Grill recently opened a second location in Ski Run Marina. The outdoor seating and bright blue patio furniture call visitors forth for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with an espresso and juice bar to sooth the hangover acquired the previous night. The Heavenly favorite is the “Artemis Burger,” a venison burger with pomegranate barbeque sauce, red onions and crumbled gorgonzola cheese.

Azul Latin Kitchen will open up just around the corner from its sister restaurant, Base Camp Pizza Co., in Heavenly Village, offering a lighter, fresher, and healthier take on Mexican food. The menu will incorporate flavors from Central and South America as well as the Caribbean, perfect for pairing with tasty craft cocktails made with fresh squeezed juices.   Azul will open in July (the website,, is also coming soon) in time for some of the Heavenly Village Concert Series to play in front of their 100-seat patio… the perfect time to slurp down some fresh margs and loosen up the dance moves.

Cold Water Brewery & Grill will be moving into the Swiss Chalet in mid-town, hopefully by the end of summer. We can’t to try some new Tahoe-made suds!

Little Philly Cheesesteaks recently opened its doors next to Sushi Pier in Stateline. The portions are huge, the family that runs it is jovial and proud of their product, and we are itching to go try some “huge famous wings.”

Verde Mexican Rotisserie will open in July in Meyers. We will be scoping this place for a protein refill after a long day of mountain biking!

Sonney’s BBQ Shack Bar & Grill opened by the Y on Emerald Bay Rd., bringing forth a slew of stellar reviews including raves about the ribs and, my personal favorite, deep-fried pickles!

Although it opened this winter, Jimmy’s Restaurant at the Landing deserves mention for its gorgeous outdoor seating area and nightly Wine Discovery Social at 4:30. These guys do not mess around when it come to wine—say some of your favorite wine adjectives and they will dip into their hand-selected cellar of over 2,000 bottles to find the perfect one.

We will be scoping out these spots for lunchtime eats and, of course, for the next location of Heavenly Happy Hour!
