4/20/14-Hoppy Closing Day!

Happy Easter and happy Closing Day Heavenly!

Today is Closing Day for shredding Heavenly Mountain this 2013-2014 season. Despite Mother Nature and her snow tantrum, I’ve enjoyed the wonderful experiences Heavenly Mountain has offered this winter season and look forward to returning next season.

Today’s forecast is calling for mostly sunny skies accompanied by light and variable winds. This afternoon skies are likely to end up slightly cloudy with late afternoon thunderstorms possible. Temperatures are expecting to climb into the mid 50s on mountain and near the lower 70s down at our base and at lake level. With awesome temperatures and great spring weather, today will be a fantastic closing day, shared with our loyal shredders!

Hop on over to the Heavenly Village Gondola where lifts will start turning at egg-actly 9:00 a.m.; all scheduled lifts will close for the season at 4:00 p.m. Today we offer 40 trails, two tubing lanes, and the Blue Streak zip line.

I’d like to thank you for reading my blogs and weather reports this year. Hopefully next season we can change it up a bit and throw in some snow! Have a great summer; countdown for Heavenly’s opening day starts now…

4/19/14- Last Hoorah!

Happy Saturday Heavenly!

Today may be closing weekend at Heavenly Mountain, but that doesn’t mean, Heavenly will be closing on a quiet note. We are closing with a bang, calling all our park enthusiasts, corduroy cruisers, adrenaline seekers, tubing fanatics, and snow-lovers alike, to ski/ride this closing weekend and give our mountain a proper farewell until next season.

Today the sun will be shining allowing for last-minute goggle tans, with temperatures climbing into the upper 40s, and peaking near 50 degrees. Winds are expected to pick up as continuous clouds develop over the Tahoe Basin this afternoon, calling for a slight chance of thunderstorms into this evening.

The Heavenly Village Gondola will start turning at 8:30 this morning giving access to nine mountain lifts and 40 trails. All scheduled lifts will close for the day at 4:00 p.m.

Enjoy the last bit of the season and have a wonderful day!

4/13/14- Oh the Choices!

4.12 Beach Day was a Success!

Good morning Heavenly!

As we start to wind down for the final days of 2013/2014 shred season at Heavenly, we are stoked on wrapping things up with awesome weather and great spring skiing conditions.  Today is no different. Today’s forecast is calling for mostly sunny skies with light to moderate NE’erly winds accompanied by temperatures in the mid 40s mid mountain and in the lower 50s on our lower mountain/base.

We are running 17 lifts accessing 75 trails on machine groomed corduroy, shaped moguls, and in-between terrain. With green circles, blue squares, black and double black diamond trails, we have a variety of trails to cruise, carve, and progress down.

Your three mountain access locations are: Stagecoach, located near the very top of Kingsburry Grade; the Heavenly Village Gondola, located near Stateline in the middle of town; and California Main Lodge, located off of Ski Run Boulevard. All lifts will start turning at 8:30 this morning and will run until close at 4:00 this afternoon.

Yesterday, the California Side of Heavenly Mountain was great in the morning. Ridge Run, overlooking Lake Tahoe not only has great views of the Lake, but also has great fresh morning corduroy that is easy to grip on your skis and carve beautiful turns down the steep part of the mountain. I suggest cruising over to Ridge and experiencing the groomers’ trail of the day.

We are expecting increasing winds strengthening out of the northeast this morning before relaxing overnight. As of this time we do not expect any wind holds, but please call our Snow Phone, 1-800-HEAVENLY and press 1 for current mountain conditions and updates on lift status. Otherwise, we are expecting a lovely day on the mountain and a great day for making progress on your goggle tans!

4/12/14- The Heavenly Advantage…

Catch a Casual Tahoe Sunset Downloading the Gondola (photo cred. Austyn Harrington)

This morning skies are light blue reflecting the same color as our beautiful Lake Tahoe.  Sunny skies will make for a gorgeous day in Tahoe and a wonderful shred day on Heavenly’s slopes.

Today we are expecting a mix of sun and clouds with possible thunderstorms this afternoon and into this evening. Although thunderstorms are forecasted, we are not expecting much precipitation due to the trough being too far south of the Tahoe Basin.

Heavenly offers 17 lifts accessing 78 trails on machine groomed and spring conditions. Please take advantage of our awesome groomers’ and their trail picks of the day: Big Dipper in NV and Ridge in CA. As you carve down our slopes, cruise over to Adventure Peak and hit up the sledding/tubing hill for a slightly different lunch break. Take a smooth ride down Heavenly’s newest attraction the Blue Streak Zip Line.

Finish your day with our beautiful Heavenly Angels as they host UNBUCKLE, Tahoe’s ultimate Ski Après Party in Tamarack Lodge. Enjoy the sun while our Angels groove to the beats of a live DJ, serving drink specials and swag giveaway. The party starts at 3:30 and will last until the final Gondola at 5:30 p.m.

Have a great day and I will see you on the slopes!

Good morning! Today we look forward to mostly sunny skies with a 20 percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms. With temperatures climbing into the mid 50s mid mountain and into the mid 60s lower mountain, we are looking forward to a beautiful day on the slopes.

All scheduled lifts will open at 9:00 a.m with the exception of Canyon Express and Groove Chair opening at 10:00 a.m. Please stay on open, designated trails only today and stay out of closed/roped off areas. Have fun in the sun and enjoy Heavenly Mountain!

4/10/14-Transition…

Chillin at the Umbrella Bar

Transitioning from winter to summer has never felt so wonderful as it does in South Lake Tahoe. Spring shredding will never be the same after early morning corduroy followed by a cold beer and bratworst underneath the on-mountain, California Umbrella Bar. Chilling at Heavenly Ski Resort, enjoying the weather and admiring the view of Lake Tahoe…ahhhh, reality in Tahoe is better than dreaming anywhere else.

Today’s forecast is calling for sunny skies with light winds. We are expecting spring-like weather with temperatures climbing into the lower 50s on summit, peaking near 51 degrees.  You should expect bluebird skies and spring condititions. Lifts will open from Stagecoach, the Heavenly Village Gondola, and California Main Lodge at 9:00 a.m. with the exception of Groove and Mott Chair opening at 10:00 a.m.

Make sure to check out 49er in NV and Mombo Meadows in CA, our groomers’ picks of the day. Wax your board/s and we will see you out on the slopes!

4/9/14-On the Rise…

Into the Blue

Driving alongside Lake Tahoe this morning I was looking out my passenger’s window, tilting my head slightly to the left marveling at the softness of the sky. The stars were not quite as bright as they usually are, this time in the early morning; instead they looked to have a film over them, making them appear behind a fog or buffer, as they dully shimmered in the dark sky.

Pulling into the parking lot, I stepped out of my car and was instantly surprised by the temperature. At 5:05 a.m. it was a mild 37 degrees; meaning that last night’s inversions sent cooler temperatures to the valley floor and warm rising air to lake level.

Now, at 7:45 a.m. temperatures are already on the rise nearing the mid 40s. You can expect morning skies to be mostly sunny with light winds throughout the day and a few occasional mid to high level clouds stretching over the Sierra this afternoon.  Temperatures will climb into the lower 50s today, proving that Heavenly is tied to awesome spring skiing.

All 17 scheduled lifts will take off at 9:00 a.m. via: Stagecoach, the Heavenly Village Gondola, and California Main Lodge.  My suggestion is to catch first chair and be up on the mountain with the sun at your back. This way you will allow yourself hours of carvable shredding on Heavenly’s snow in its coolest state. As the sun catches up, make your way down to Steins for a bite to eat, then carry on down the Face and East Bowl for a leg-burner finish.
