February 2014 Daily Snow Reports

2/28/14-Let it Storm!

Bring it on!

Bring it on!

A quick update…as of 3:00 p.m., Heavenly has received 7-9″ of new snow since the 7:00 a.m. report, boosting the 48-hour snow total to 18-20″. It has continued to snow on-and-off throughout the day and is forecasted to continue this evening.

Let it storm!

Rise and shine Heavenly! Currently it is snowing on-mountain along with down at the lake and in the valley. The Snow Gods have received all our community prayers and are letting it storm. While Heavenly is amidst dense clouds full of moisture, we are expecting 8-12” total daytime accumulation with increasing winds that may impact our lift operations. Please continue to check here for current mountain conditions or call our snow phone for immediate updates, 1-800-HEAVENLY and press 1.

Yesterday we received 10” overnight and one additional inch near the end of the day. With the current wintry snow conditions outside our trails are soft and completely covered with fresh snow. Mother Nature is supplying Heavenly Mountain with awesome snow and now we demand our loyal skiers and riders to rip up the goods and enjoy this fantastic pow day.

Heavenly Mountain is working on clearing our lifts for opening at 9:00 a.m. We plan on running 20 lifts accessing 72 trails including expert terrain, upper Gunbarrel, Mott Canyon gates 1-6, and Killebrew Canyon gates A-C. As of now, the Gondola is scheduled to open at 9:00 a.m. however, due to the intensity of the snow storm, please understand that the Gondola will be first to close with high winds. Otherwise, you may access the mountain via Stagecoach, or CA Main Lodge.

If this storm keeps it up, schools’ may call the first of Snow Days which means it’s a great day to shred the mountain. Head to Heavenly for an epic day on the slopes!

2/26/14- As the Sky Darkens…

Snow is on the way!

Snow is on the way! Phot cred: OpenSnow.com

This morning the sky is getting darker with increasing clouds that will spread precipitation across the Sierra and Lake Tahoe Basin. Southerly winds are predicted to increase this afternoon when the brunt of the storm slides through bringing periods of moderate to heavy rain near Lake level and heavy snow on-mountain.  By this evening, snow levels are predicted to drop to below Lake level allowing for several inches of snow across the region.

Today we are expecting temperatures to stay mild, peeking near 35 degrees.  Heavenly will open at 9:00 a.m. via Stagecoach, the Gondola, and CA Main Lodge; Ski School is offered out of the Gondola and CA Main Lodge. Although winds are not predicted to increase until after the closing of the mountain, winds may increase earlier than expected; please note that lifts may be impacted and the best way to receive current conditions is to call the snow phone, 1-800-HEAVENLY and press 1 or you can check our Terrain and Lift Status here.

We are operating 20 lifts accessing 71 trails across Nevada and California.  Our groomers’ run of the day in California is Mombo Meadows- a green circle trail great for learning how to link turns and perfect the fundamental basics of ski/riding. Our groomers’ have chosen Comet as the Nevada run of the day due to its variety of terrain packed into one-single run.

Lifts will open at 9:00 this morning and will run until 4:00 this afternoon. Finish your ski day with some après specials at one of our base lodges from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

We will continue to watch the sky darken and keep our fingers crossed that Mother Nature delivers the goods. Keep thinking snow and have a great day!

2/25/14-Last Day of Sunny Weather…

Enjoy the last day of sun!

Enjoy the last day of sun!

Good morning Heavenly! Skies are clear and sunny this morning as we look forwards to mild temperatures and light winds today. This afternoon temperatures will peek around 46 degrees at our base and around 40 degrees at summit. Today will be the last day of “spring weather” as we head into the first of two storm systems beginning tomorrow and lasting well through this weekend.

Today we are operating 19 lifts accessing 70 awesome trails. Ridge Run is our groomer’s pick of the day in California due to its amazing views overlooking the sapphire blue waters of Lake Tahoe. For those who want a top of the summit view, make sure to take Sky Express and turn right for Ridge Run. Our groomers’ pick of the day in Nevada is California Trail. Similar to Ridge Run, California Trail has exceptional views of the Lake along with vertical elements in its terrain.

Late this afternoon you can expect skies to darken as increasing clouds circulate over the Tahoe Basin. There’s a slight chance of early morning rain/snow showers Wednesday but the most intense portion of the storm is predicted to occur Wednesday night.

As for today, appreciate the warm weather and enjoy the stunning views Heavenly Mountain has to offer. With clear sunny skies, make sure to whip out your phone for a selfie, here-and-there and have a great day!

Lifts open at 9:00 a.m. and will run until close at 4:00 p.m.

81 Trails to Shred!

This morning skies are clear and we are looking forwards to another gorgeous day in beautiful Lake Tahoe. We are expecting temperatures reaching up into the mid 40s today and a light breeze. Please dress appropriately wearing thin layers and a light jacket.  Bust out your stylish sunnies or dark lens goggles to protect your eyes and Go All In.

Heavenly Mountain has awesome terrain and great snow conditions with 81 trails available for shredding today.  For an extreme day on the slopes, get up early for first chair and try to ski/ride all 81 trails!

If you aren’t completely confident in your ski/ride ability, but want to make improvements,  take a Ski/Ride School lesson and become confident and assure yourself that you belong on the mountain. The first step in becoming an expert is to get first-hand experience, why not get the experience you need today? Let your instructor know your expectations for yourself and be on your way to Sochi…

It’s a great day for progression and a wonderful time to make that first step. Become an expert or learn more about Ski School here, and learn to ski/ride like the pros.

Slap on some sunscreen and we’ll catch ya on the slopes!

2/21/14-First Chair to Last Call…

Observation Deck overlooking South Lake Tahoe

Observation Deck overlooking South Lake Tahoe

TGIF! This morning forecasts are calling for abundant sunshine and bluebird skies. Increasing clouds this afternoon and a light to moderate breeze will keep temperatures mild ranging from mid 30s to mid 40s today.  Lifts open at 8:30 from all four mountain access locations.

With great weather in today’s forecast, my suggestion is to start your day out on the Nevada side and to follow the sun as the day progresses. Stagecoach and Boulder are both great options for morning cruisers. Both bases offer intermediate level cruisers great for warm-up runs and soft snow.

After warming up your legs, head on over to Comet Express and shred Orion, our groomers NV run of the day. Take Dipper Express and ride Milky Way Bowl while the snow is the softest and in the best condition. If you are an expert skier/rider, make sure to hit up Mott Canyon and Killebrew Canyon which will open at 10:00 a.m.

As the sun moves into the California Side, head over to Double Down and shred winched corduroy that will let your skis make precise turns and feel great on your edges. Take Sky Express to Heavenly’s Summit and try out Ellie’s or Pinnacles’ for excellent views of Lake Tahoe and radical terrain.

Continue down to lower Cali. and switch into mogul focus as you shred down Waterfall Run, Powderbowl Run and upper East Bowl.

By the time you make it down East Bowl, your stomach will be hungry for lunch. Stop by Booyah’s at the top of the Tram for one-of-a-kind burgers and satisfy your hunger in a proper manner. Have a beer and relax for a minute before sending it down The Face.

By 2:00 p.m. say goodbye to Cali and start making your way back over to the Nevada side. Hop on Sky Express,( maybe make a new chairlift friend) turn left at the top of the chair and take your new friend down Skyline Trail, then to Cali Trail finally ending at Tamarack Lodge. Unbuckle kicks off at 3:30 with our lovely Heavenly Angels and live DJ.

Once the clock strikes 5:30 p.m. load up the Gondola and enjoy the sunset over the Lake as you come down from Heavenly Mountain. While your eyes feast, pump yourself up for night out in South Lake Tahoe.

Once again, lifts open at 8:30 a.m. and will run until close at 4:00 p.m. Have a great day!

Winds are expected to be more moderate than the past few days with a light to moderate breeze. Increasing clouds and high winds will return this evening after Heavenly is closed for the day.

If you’re feeling comfortable with our groomed trails, test your quick turns out on Little Dipper for some fun moguls with steep vertical elements. Mott Canyon’s snow is soft and great for expert skiers and riders who need a thrill of adrenaline.

Both small and intermediate terrain parks’ are loaded with features designed for improvement. Adventure Peak, Epic Mix Racing, Mott’s, Killebrew and Groove Terrain Park will open at 10:00 this morning.

2/16/14-3″ of New Snow!

Milky Way Bowl is Open for Shredders!

Milky Way Bowl is Open for Shredders!

Good morning Heavenly! Overnight the mountain received three inches of snow and our groomers’ have been boasting about how wonderful our snow conditions are this morning. Special winching was done on lower Ellie’s in CA and Comet was groomed and is now sublime corduroy.

Today we are looking to run 26 lifts accessing 75 trails including expert terrain, Mott Canyon. Due to wind impacting our lift operations, Mott hasn’t seen the traffic it usually does, therefore once the lifts start turning, it will be a wise decision to head up and hit Mott’s as soon as the gate opens at 10:00 a.m.

Our three inches of new snow is filled with moisture adding a great layer to our base and reassuring us that Heavenly’s snow conditions are impressive to all. We are 80% open and are on our way to being 100% open.

Today’s forecast is calling for isolated snow storms before 10:00 a.m. when winds are expected to decrease and let up for the day. This afternoon we are expecting mostly sunny skies and temperatures topping off at 35 degrees.

Currently North Bowl Chair and Sky Express are on wind-hold, but are expected to open mid-morning. Ski Patrol are assessing the mountain and will lift wind-holds as soon as possible. Please call our snow phone, 1-800-HEAVENLY and press 1 for most current conditions.

As of now, your four mountain access locations are: Stagecoach, Boulder Lodge as high as Boulder Chair, the Heavenly Village Gondola, and CA Main Lodge as high as Canyon Express. Lifts open at 8:30 this morning and will run until close at 4:00 p.m. Please stay on designated trails only today and please observe all posted signs and warnings.

Wear thin layers today and sunny lens goggles for an awesome day overlooking beautiful Lake Tahoe.

2/15/14-80% and more to come…

Apre Ski Anypne?

Apre Ski Anyone?

GOOD MORNING Lake Tahoe! High winds are impacting our lift operations today. As of right now the Heavenly Village Gondola is on wind hold; therefore all top of the Gondola activities are on delay for the time being. Tamarack Express, Canyon Express, and Sky Express are on wind hold as well. You are able to ski/ride from NV over to CA but not the reverse at this time. Please call our snow phone, 1-800-HEAVENLY and press 1 or check here for current conditions.

In other mountain news, we have a pretty full day up at Heavenly Mountain. Our recent expansion puts us at 80% open and pretty soon we will have 100% of our mountain open. Our newly opened expert terrain, Mott Canyon made its debut yesterday. Mott’s is known for its expert terrain and wild vertical aspects. It is full of cliff drops and double-black diamond features that cause a high-voltage of adrenaline through all our expert skiers and riders.

Comet over in Nevada was winched last night, creating impressive corduroy. Once Canyon or Sky Express open up, make sure to cruise over to Ridge Bowl in California so you can experience soft winched snow on your edges as you lay down acrable turns.

I would suggest heading up CA Main Lodge and take a couple laps in lower California and warm up your legs for a Go All In day. Or head up Stagecoach and hit up Comet for some quick warm-ups before heading over to Mott Canyon and testing your ski/rider legs.

If it’s your first time on a board or a pair of skis, I suggest heading up Kingsburry Grade and starting at Boulder Lodge. Boulder is great for first-timers with Ski School and easy terrain allowing you to get comfortable before ripping up the rest of the mountain.

After shredding a full day on the mountain, sit back, relax and kick off those boots as you UNBUCKLE with our lovely Heavenly Angels. Join us in Tamarack Lodge from 3:30-5:30 for drink specials, swag giveaways, live music and dancing with a live DJ. If you have your little ones’ with you, bring them on down to the base of the Gondola at 4:30 for Ripperoo’s Parade!

#HeavenlyorBust, it’s an awesome day for shredding your Heavenly Mountain, so grab your gear, and head to Heavenly! Lifts open at 8:30 and close at 4:00 p.m.

~Austyn Harrington, 2/15/14 @8:00a.m.

2/11/14-A MILLION LITTLE SUNS…

Goregous View's Today!

Goregous Views Today!

Rise and Shine Lake Tahoe! This morning skies are light blue and the sun is shining. Heavenly Mountain is covered in fresh snow, sparkling in the sun and our trails are literally glistening. Our grand total of fallen snow from this weekend storm is 37” and was just the push we needed to expand our mountain, practically doubling our skiable terrain.

We have 65 trails open today with tree skiing and fresh snow in the woods. We are running 19 lifts giving you access to over 33 miles of awesomeness and a diverse variety of terrain with something  for everyone to enjoy.

Lifts will open at 9:00 from Stagecoach, the Gondola, and CA Main Lodge. My suggestion for the day is to get up early and head straight to the upper mountain where our snow is the softest and one of my favorite runs had its debut yesterday. Milky Way bowl is a black diamond and will either make you wish you had more leg days in the gym-or- it will applaud your gym appearances. Either way, it’s a fantastic bowl and will get your adrenaline pumping for a GO All In day at Heavenly Mountain Resort.

Have a great day, enjoying the sunshine and blue skies and I’ll catch ya on the slopes!

2/10/14-SNOW COVERED FOREST…

GET SOME FRESHIES!

GET SOME FRESHIES!

A wise man once said, “there is nothing in the world more beautiful than the forest clothed to its very hollows in snow,” and that wise man, William Sharp, could not be more right. Here up at Heavenly we believe there truly is nothing more beautiful, hence the opening of Powderbowl Woods, so you too can marvel at the forests’ beauty while ripping some radical pow-lines.

Overnight Mother Nature delivered 4” of new snow, making our 48hr total a mind-blowing 34”. Not only did we open Powderbowl Woods’, but we opened an additional 8-runs and might even have an opening or two-this afternoon. We now have 2240 acres of skiable terrain available with close to 30 miles open and Milky Way Bowl, a black diamond just opened!

Please observe all posted signs and warnings. Please do not ‘duck’ under any ropes; ‘ducking’ of ropes will result in pass/ticket loss.

This morning, the clouds are starting to clear as we are expecting the sun to reveal itself out of hiding. Temperatures will range from mid to upper 30s on-mountain and it’s likely we will see scattered snow showers throughout the day.

Buckle up and head to Heavenly Mountain for the pow…pow…powder. Your three mountain access locations are the Gondola, Stagecoach and Cal Main Lodge. Lifts open at 9am and close at 4pm.  I’m getting ready to head up Cal- race ya through the woods!

2/9/14- WELCOME TO THE WHITE ROOM…

Epic Snow Day!

Epic Snow Day!

Mother Nature has delivered 18” in the past 48hrs and within the past couple hours more than 3” has fallen on-mountain. Speaking to the groomers’ earlier this morning, they were talking about possible delayed start and as of 8:00 a.m. we confirmed a delayed start until 10:00 a.m.

Currently our team of awesome Ski Patrol are out assessing the mountain and working on snow safety and de-icing the lifts. We are in the middle of the storm system and are expecting 6-14” of daytime snow accumulation above 8,000 feet.

Ski school will be offered out of CA Main Lodge and Boulder Lodge. The Heavenly Village Gondola will most likely stay on windhold this morning along with upper NV and upper CA. You can access the mountain via: Stagecoach as high as Stagecoach Express; Boulder Lodge as high as Boulder Chair; CA Main Lodge as high as Powderbowl Chair.  Lift status is subject to change as mountain-conditions change. Please call, 1-800-HEAVENLY and press 1 for the most current updates.

So overall, the good news is that Mother Nature is back in action, delivering precipitation to make up for the end of 2013 and Heavenly is reaping the benefits. We are pumped on the weather and just to let you know…while it rains down at Lake level, it is dumping snow on-mountain! Wear your waterproof outerwear today and stay tuned for updates as it will be an epic day shredding our new, well-deserved snow!

2/3/14-Thank Heavens…

2″ in the Heavens

Good morning!
Yesterday we received 1” on-mountain throughout the day and overnight we received about the same, meaning today we have 2” of new snow! Cloudy skies are breaking apart making way for the sun and spots of blue sky. With frosty temperatures this morning, you can expect highs to peak near the mid 20s and stay cool throughout the ski day.

We are expecting snow flurries late this morning after 10 am with moderate winds. This evening when the sun goes down, temperatures will plummet into single digits and snow accumulation is predicted.

Today you can access the mountain via: Stagecoach, the Gondola, or CA Main Lodge; lifts start up at 9:00 a.m. and will run until close at 4pm. We are turning 18 lifts giving access to 35 trails consisting of: green circles (easy), blue squares (intermediate), and black diamonds (advanced).

Heavenly’s diverse terrain stretches across both California and Nevada. Our Groomers’ agree on Ridge run being the pick of the day in CA due to its vertical challenge and awesome view of Lake Tahoe. On the NV side of the mountain, the run of the day is Orion due to its catering of all ski/rider abilities and groomed corduroy.

We remind all our guests and locals to please stay on open, designated trails ONLY. Do not ‘duck’ ropes because we will take your pass/ticket. Even though we have new snow, early season conditions apply for our entire mountain.

Have a fun day exploring Heavenly and stay safe!

Happy Groundhog Day, the groundhog saw his shadow- so looks like we will have a later winter…6 more weeks! According to Western Weather, Lake Tahoe will experience increasing clouds this morning and remain quite cloudy through the afternoon and into the evening before clouds decrease overnight. Cross your fingers in hopes that snow flurries take flight as this disturbance takes place through tomorrow’s forecast of possible snow flurries in the afternoon.

Today we are running 24 lifts accessing 39 awesome trails and our snow surface conditions are the best we’ve had all year. Yesterday’s rumors about Heavenly having its’ best day of the year are true, and we are stoked to share another awesome day!

  • Goya

The trees at Heavenly sure were beautiful today! What a great quote!

  • Catherine

I love reading the heavenly snow reports. Austyn is really creative and enthusiastic. Makes me excited for a day on the hill.

  • Sheila R.

My husband and I enjoyed the trees! great suggestions thanks, austyn!

  • Mark

Why is there not a current grooming report(map) available every morning?

  • Jesse Plate

    Hi Mark-
We unfortunately don’t have a visual display that automatically pulls the open/groomed trails from our terrain and lift status page. Our snow reporters update the list of open and groomed runs every morning to give you the most accurate information, but we only create a visual presentation of that info from time to time.
