Lake Tahoe Golf Guide

Golf season has arrived. With an early and warm spring this year in Lake Tahoe, most of the golf courses around the lake are in fabulous shape. With close to 20 courses between South Shore, North Shore and Truckee, Tahoe really offers something for everyone. From world class courses like Edgewood to small nine-hole family friendly municipal courses, you can be sure to find what you’re looking for.

On the South Shore, Lake Tahoe Golf Course offers a great championship 18 hole course. Lake Tahoe Golf Course is in the best shape I have ever seen it – the fairways are lush and green and the backdrop is amazing. They offer a great deal for locals with their “Locals Card” which offers significant discounts depending on the time of day. I highly recommend that if you haven’t played this course it is well worth a round. Lake Tahoe Golf course also offers a full practice facility, if you just need to brush up on your skills.

On the higher end, Edgewood offers spectacular views of the lake with the 17th hole sitting on the shores of Lake Tahoe and has been ranked as one of “America’s Top Golf Courses”. Edgewood hosts the American Century Celebrity Golf Championships each year in July, which attracts some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment. This course can be both challenging and user friendly depending on what tees you choose to play from.

I think one of the most challenging courses on the South Shore is Tahoe Paradise Golf Course in Meyers. It wraps around a hill side and has some very tight fairways with an abundant amount of hazards. The greens are also extremely challenging especially if you don’t put the ball in an ideal spot. This is a small and fun course if you are up for a challenge.

The Bijou Municipal Golf Course is situated in the middle of South Lake Tahoe offers nine holes and is a great place to take young kids for an easy round of golf. They do not have a golf cart fleet so it is a walking only course that offers very reasonable rates. This is a great course for the more casual golfer.

So whether you are a serious golfer or just like to go out and enjoy a fun round with friends, golfing in Lake Tahoe is a great way to spend your day.
