If boating, beaching, biking, hiking, camping, SUPing and sunning doesn’t quite keep you busy enough during your time in Tahoe, I’ve compiled a list some not-to-miss events going on this summer. Tag an extra day or two onto your trip because you’re going to need plenty of time to play AND indulge yourself in these fabulous happenings. June 1-2 & June 8-9: Valhalla Renaissance Faire @ Camp Richardson Enjoy historical reenactments, live jousts and tons of entertainment alongside themed costumes, food and merchants.
June 2: America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride Starting @ Horizon Casino Resort | Various times Like the title says…America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride. And it’s for a great cause. The bike ride supports the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition and others. The race is sold out, but be sure to come out and cheer on the bikers!
June 29-30: Race the Lake of the Sky @ El Dorado Beach | Saturday 6:30am-4:00pm, Sunday 6:30am-3:00pm
Various race’s include short course, long distance, team relay, grom races and SUP Cross Sprint course. Food, vendors and music, free for spectators. Visit their website if you’re interested in competing.
July 4: Lights on Tahoe South Fireworks Show | Dusk There’s no better place in the world to watch the fireworks than in Tahoe, and I’m not just saying that because I want you to come to Tahoe. Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of being here during the Fourth of July would agree that it’s a one-of-a-kind experience. Visit the Tahoe South website for some tips on getting the best view for the fireworks.
July 12-August 25: Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival @ Sand Harbor State Park| Various times This year, LTSF is featuring A Midsummer Night’s Dream along with additional top-notch entertainment throughout the festival. Enjoy some Billy Shakespeare as you sink your toes in the sand and sip on a glass of wine right on the beaches of beautiful Sand Harbor.
August 2-3: Hot August Nights @ MontBleu Casino Resort & Spa Free family entertainment, automotive exhibits, vendors, 50s and 60s style outdoor stages of live music, awards and competitions.
September 1: Sample the Sierra @ Ski Run Blvd | 1:00pm-5:00pm Sample the Sierra is an awesome way to get a taste of Tahoe. Local farmers pair with top chefs to bring you samples of the most innovative cuisine using only the best ingredients. Don’t forget the beer and wine pairings! Sample the Sierra is a very delicious way to spend your Labor Day weekend.
October 5-6: Oktoberfest @ Camp Richardson Okay, so this isn’t really during the summer, but it is definitely a notable event and deserves a space on your calendar. German food, beer garden and lederhosen.
Tahoe Derby Dames @ Bijou Community Park: If you’ve never seen Roller Derby, you’re in for a treat. These girls are the fiercest things you’ll ever see on four wheels. Bouts are usually on weekends. Check their website for the schedule.
Live at Lakeview @Lakeview Commons Beach: Every Thursday, June-September. Music, local vendors, food and the most beautiful sunsets known to man, and it’s free! Bands TBA, check the website for updates.
