Standup Paddle aka SUP is one of the best ways to enjoy Lake Tahoe in the spring, summer and fall months. It’s relaxing, a good workout and a great way to enjoy the crystal blue waters of Lake Tahoe before the temps warm up enough to take a (quick) dip.
Last summer was my first time paddleboarding and I loved it. It takes a minute to get used to balancing on the board while paddling. Once you get a hang of it, the calmness and serenity of Lake Tahoe takes over. The most ideal times to paddle on Lake Tahoe are when the waters are the smoothest, usually in the early morning or late evening. The local hotspot, South Tahoe Standup Paddle, offers a variety of activities to help you get up and out paddling. From board rentals to guided tours and lessons, they have something for everyone and every type of ability level.
Here are some of my favorite options:
Yoga and Pilates
From June 1 to September 30 head to El Dorado Beach on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 8:oo am – 10:00 am for Standup Paddle Yoga. Taught by local studios, test the limits of mind, body and soul with paddle yoga. $40 includes class and board rental; $15 if you have your own board.
On Tuesdays from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, hit the lake for Paddle Pilates that will leave you refreshed and revived. Build your balance and strength while performing some of the Pilates mat exercises on the paddle board, plus one free hour of paddling around the lake. Price: $35 class with paddleboard rental, $15 if you have your own board.
Ladies Night is a great way to introduce yourself or your friends to SUP. You will get to tour the lake with other ladies who are excited about being on the water, watching the sunset and enjoying the glide. This fun experience will leave you happy, feeling good and ready for more. Get to El Dorado Beach on Mondays from 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm to join the fun. $20 includes a board and mini-lesson. Child care is available for $5 per child.
Guided Tours and Lessons
Each tour is unique, from Bald Eagle viewings, to checking out Emerald Bay or discovering secret spots at D.L. Bliss, you’ll be creating unforgettable memories! Half day, full day and sunset tour options are available. Check out South Tahoe Standup Paddle for more information and reservations.
How are you going to get out and enjoy the Lake in the upcoming weeks?
