2013 U.S. Freestyle National Championships

The 2012-2013 season has been all about going big for Heavenly. From big storms to big events, we’ve had no shortage of excitement. We brought in the season with Winter Ignite and Heavenly Holidays, and with Spring Loaded, High Roller Hold ‘Em and the U.S. Freestyle National Championships skiing competition coming up this spring, we certainly aren’t going out like a lamb.

Yes, you heard right, the U.S. Freestyle National Champs are back at Heavenly this year for the first time since 2004. Over the last several years, the event has been hosted at Stratton and Killington in Vermont and Squaw Valley, but many athletes, like local favorite Sho Kashima, would likely agree that Heavenly feels like home for this USSA event.

Heavenly has a rich history when it comes to hosting world-class competitions with events dating back to the 1970’s, including 14 World Cup events. Beginning with the U.S. Freestyle National Championships, Heavenly plans to get back into the big events circuit.

This is certainly an event you won’t want to miss. The Championships kick off on March 29 with Moguls on Friday, March 29, Aerials on Saturday, March 30 and ending with Dual Moguls on Sunday, March 31. The event will take place on Gunbarrel and World Cup runs at the California base which is a great location for spectators to watch the thrill of bumps and aerials.

In true Heavenly fashion, the party will be going off during the competition. We’ll have a DJ spinning music, beer tents, a fireworks show to end the evening and, of course, the Heavenly Angels will be on hand to get the crowd going. This event will sell out. Book your trip now.

It takes a village to pull an event like this off and we are actively looking for community volunteers to help it all come together. If you are interested in participating and being a part of all the action, we’ve got the volunteer position for you. We are looking for both on-snow and off-snow help. We need volunteers in mogul course and big air jump maintenance, banner set-up, food and beverage runners, registration, Zero Waste Warriors for our recycling team and more. No experience needed.

We have shifts for various roles during the entire week up to the event as well as “all hands on” during the Friday Moguls, Saturday Big Air and Sunday Dual Moguls events. Don’t just sit on the sidelines, sign up and be a part of it. Volunteers will get lunch and a special gift for participating in 3 or more shifts. Call Tiffany at 530-542-5180 for more information or to sign up.

See you at the competition!
