Hidden Gems of Heavenly Dining

There are eight wonderful restaurants on the mountain to grab a bite and enjoy a few minutes with a friend.  You may already have your favorite place to have lunch.  Now I challenge you to check out these food gems at each of the different lodges on the mountain.

California Lodge Many of you want something healthy or maybe vegetarian.  The salad bar at the California Lodge is the best salad bar in South Lake Tahoe!  It has a large variety of lettuces, cheeses, and an enormous amount of vegetables and fruits.  Looking for protein?  There are hard boiled eggs, chicken, and dried meats.  There are also premade salads like potato, pasta, and bean.  Need texture?  How about dried fruits, nuts, and croutons?  And of course a wide variety of different dressings to top it off!

Lakeview Lodge – Booyah’s Looking for the best burger on the mountain?  Look no further than Booyah’s restaurant in Lakeview Lodge.  The best seller is the Whiskey BBQ Bacon Bacon Cheese Burger.  Yes, two bacons!  It is a bacon infused angus patty, topped with cheddar cheese, applewood smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickle, beer battered onions rings and a whiskey BBQ sauce.  Instead of French fries, try a side of fried pickle spears.

Steins Are you looking for a bite in the sun with some German flair?  The Bratwurst on a Pretzel Bun is scrumptious and is a traditional pork, Bratwurst sausage.  All of the extras at the topping station really bring it to the next level.

Sky Deck Stop on in where the sun always shines!  Sky Deck offers Kabobs!  There are tri tip, chicken, shrimp, or tofu kabobs and they are served on a bed of rice.  Each serving comes with two skewers and has peppers, onions, and other veggies.  Wash it down with a cold beverage.

Tamarack Lodge Tamarack Lodge smokes their meat right outside the lodge so you are guaranteed the most delicious smoked meats the mountains can offer.  Inside at the smokehouse station, you can order “The Bob” which is a sandwich piled high with pulled pork, tri-tip, turkey, BBQ chicken, and topped with cole slaw.  Try it with a side of dirty spuds, which is smashed potatoes with caramelized onions, melted Swiss and cheddar cheeses.

East Peak Lodge Venture over into the mid-mountain Nevada area and you will find East Peak Lodge.  There on the outdoor BBQ you will find the Mac Daddy.   What is a Mac Daddy?  It is a single sirloin patty topped with bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, and then smothered in macaroni and cheese.  Devour it with a side of potato salad and beverage of choice.

Stagecoach Lodge Looking for a healthy vegetarian item?  Ski on down to Stagecoach where you will find the Portabella Mushroom sandwich.  This tasty veggie treat starts with marinating the portabella cap with garlic and herbs.  They then grill it, lay it atop a bed of mixed greens, and top it with a juicy roasted red pepper.  Add cheese if you like.  All of this pinched between a toasted whole wheat bun slathered with hummus.  Enjoy!

Boulder Lodge Boulder is serving up some home-style cooking!  You have to come over and try the homemade meatloaf, smothered in country gravy, served with mashed tators and corn.  Finish it off with a banana split, hot fudge brownie sundae, or a milkshake and you will be happy North Bowl chair is a little slower than the rest.

Yum!  Yum!
