Happy New Year’s Eve!

There are still powder stashes in the trees and the groomed runs are soft. There are over 60 groomed runs and 95 total trails open today. We have 4703 acres open, which is the most open terrain of any resort in the Tahoe basin.

Expert skiers can enjoy the excellent conditions in Mott and Killebrew Canyons after 10 a.m. today. Tubing and sledding are available available at Adventure Peak. We’ll also have EpicMix Racing going on near the bottom of ridge run.

Start your New Year’s eve celebration with half-price drinks and appetizer specials at Unbuckle at Tamarack Lodge at 3:30 p.m.

Then, keep the party going at 6 p.m.  at Heavenly’s New Year’s Eve Celebration in the Heavenly Village. We’ll have the Fire Groove Fire Dancers, the LA Allstars will be performing live and we’ll end the party with fireworks and a Gondola “ball-drop” at 9 p.m.

Have a safe and fun New Year’s Eve.

12/25/12 – Santa Delivers

Heavenly skiers and riders must have been nice this year because Santa brought us the goods. No need for swans-a-swimming, or a pear tree or pipers doing whatever they do. We wanted snow and over this last week we got it.

Cool overnight temperatures kept that snow fresh for today. Pair these conditions with great views of the lake and it’s going to be a Merry Christmas indeed. This video shows our awesome powder conditions.

Great views and snow aren’t your only presents today. We’re kicking off EpicMix Racing today. You can track your time on our race course and compare it to your friends, family and world-champion skier Lindsey Vonn. Learn more from this video. You can get to the course by taking Canyon Express.

Also, we’re opening up our tubing hill next to the Gondola. We’re hoping to have 6 lanes for tubing and 2 for sledding.

And for one more stocking stuffer, ski patrol is working hard to get Killebrew open sometime this afternoon. Check back for updates.

Are you feeling more naughty than nice? Then head over to Unbuckle, at the Tamarack Lodge from 3:30pm-5:30pm for half-price drinks and appetizers.

Happy Holidays!

12/24/12 – Best Day of the Season So Far

The storm continued to deliver snow through the night and the mountain is looking gorgeous. Since closing, 6 to 12 inches have fallen on the slopes, which brings the 7-day total to over 5 Feet. Check out this video showing the massive amounts of snow being dumped on the mountain.

Lifts are set to open at 8:30 a.m. Although, Sky will be delayed until 9:30a.m.  and Mott will be delayed until after 10a.m. due to the massive amounts of snow that we’re currently removing. Check out this page for the latest updates.

On top of that, there will be a break in storms today. A number of lifts that were on hold yesterday are scheduled to be open today. That means there will be lots of opportunities for making fresh tracks in deep powder! With great snow and nice weather, this is shaping up to be the best day of the season so far.

Santa is going to take some time off after he delivers presents tonight, so today is the last days for kids to meet him for the year. He will be waiting at Santa’s Workshop Snow Globe in the Heavenly Village from 2:00-7:00 p.m.

Enjoy half-price drinks and appetizer specials today during Unbuckle, at the Tamarack Lodge from 3:30-5:30p.m.

Have a fun day out there!

-Josh Babin

12/23/12 – With 3′ of powder, can you sing along? Sunday snowy sunday!

This spectacular storm delivered what we promised and then some.  We received 3’ of new powder in the last 24 hours and it’s still not over!  Today is an EPIC powder day here at heavenly.  The powder is deep, dry and fluffy thanks to the cold overnight temps and the high elevation at Heavenly, and today will be a day you will talk about for years to come!  The energy from this storm is buzzing around town and even more on the mountain. Thank you Mother Nature, this year’s Christmas gift is one we will remember for a long time!   Heavenly is known for our amazing top to bottom conditions and we offer terrain for every lever of skier and rider.

Today winds are impacting lift operations and the Gondola, Big Easy, Galaxy, North Bowl, Dipper Express, Sky Express and Tamarack Express are on wind hold.  For the snow skiing/riding access we recommend heading to the CA side! There is no on-mountain connection between NV and CA today. Ski School is at the CA Main Lodge. Free shuttle busses will run between all 4 base areas today.  Check skiheavenly.com for the latest updates.

Kids can meet Santa at Santa’s Workshop Snow Globe in the Heavenly Village from 2-7:00p.m.

 Lifts open at 8:30 a.m.

12/22/12 – Mother Nature’s wonderful snow machine has been turned on!

Mother Nature’s wonderful snow machine turned on last night!  She’s going to crank it up and give us the powder we have come to love here at Heavenly!  We received 2” of snow last night and it’s still coming down.  With Heavenly’s high elevation this storm should deliver lots of that nice light snow!

Update 11:15a.m. : Mountain access is through Stagecoach,  Boulder  and the California Main Lodge. The Gondola, Sky, Tamarack and Big Easy are on wind hold. You can ski/ride from Nevada to California, but not the reverse. Use our free shuttle service to move between base lodges.

Be sure to bundle up before you hit the slopes and enjoy the fresh powder!

Kids can meet Santa at Santa’s Workshop Snow Globe in the Heavenly Village from 2-7:00p.m.  Use our free shuttle busses between all 4 base areas today.

Lifts open at 8:30 a.m.

12/21/12 –  Today we are opening Boulder and Galaxy lifts!

Instead of crashing fireballs and colliding planetary systems, the end of the world looks more like a dreamy powder day.  We are expected to get feet of snow before Christmas and it all starts today!  I guess they deciphered the snowflake image at the end of the Mayan calendar all wrong!  Today we are opening Boulder and Galaxy lifts and we now have 4,400 acres open.

The storm is here and we have snow in the forecast today!  With the snow sometimes we get wind! Winds are effecting lift operations, and the Gondola, Groove, Patsy’s, Tram, Sky, Comet, Dipper, Big Easy, Northbowl, Olympic Express, and Tamarack lifts are on wind hold.  The lower lifts here at Heavenly don’t experience as much wind as the top lifts so it could still be a great day for the opening of Boulder lift.  The only access to the mountain is on the NV side of the mountain via Boulder, Stagecoach Express lifts and Gunbarrel (Gunbarrel is for advanced skiers and riders only).

Today at Heavenly Holidays the kids can meet Santa at Santa’s Workshop Snow Globe in the Heavenly Village from 2-7:00p.m.

~ Kevin Clark

12/20/12 – If the end of the world is tomorrow, today would be a great day to ride!

The Mayan Apocalypse date was predicted to be 12-21-12 which happens to be tomorrow!  I really don’t think the world is coming to a crashing end, but according to the Hubble Space Telescopes observations of the Milky Way galaxy it will crash with a neighbor in about four billion years.  That should give you enough time to enjoy the 18” of new snow we have received in the last 7 days.

Winds could affect lift operations today, and we are starting lifts Dipper, Sky, Comet and Tamarack off on wind hold. We will have reduced speeds on the Gondola that’s set to open at 9:00 A.M. Check skiheavenly.com for the latest updates.

Be sure to bundle up before you hit the slopes and enjoy the fresh corduroy!

Reports indicate we are still looking at several feet of snow for the local slopes right before Christmas.

Kids can meet Santa at Santa’s Workshop Snow Globe in the Heavenly Village from 2-7:00p.m.  Enjoy half priced drinks and appetizer specials today during Unbuckle, at the Tamarack Lodge from 3:30pm-5:30pm.

Mountain access is through the Gondola, Stagecoach and the CA Base Lodge.  Mountain access is through the 3 base areas with free shuttle service running between them.  Lifts open at 9 a.m.

12/19/12 – Ski and Ride to Cal Lodge and Stagecoach!

With the opening of Round-a-Bout today, Heavenly will now have top-to-bottom skiing in both California and Nevada. The mountain has received 2 inches of new snow in the last 24 hours and several feet of snow are forecasted for the weekend.

You can get onto the mountain from the Gondola, Stagecoach and the CA Main Lodge. Our free shuttle service runs between all three base areas. We plan to have 19 lifts servicing 65 trails today.

The temperatures have been cold recently, which has been great for our snow.  We have a solid base and we’ve been getting a consistent snowfall almost daily over the last week. Over two feet in the last seven days! This video from yesterday shows our powder stashes and awesome tree skiing.

We imagine Santa must be busy with less than a week to go before his big day. So, we’re especially cheerful he is able to set aside some time to kick off Heavenly Holidays in the Heavenly Village. Santa’s Workshop Snow Globe will be open everday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m through Christmas Eve.

Also, Unbuckle is from 3:30-5:30p.m. today at the Tamarack Lodge with half-price drinks and appetizer specials.

Conditions are fantastic out there, and you’ll be able to find some powder stashes, packed powder and machine groomed terrain. The recent storms brought 2 FEET to 3.5 FEET of snow to Heavenly! Lifts may be impacted by winds today, so please check here for the latest information. Thanks to Heavenly’s high elevation, our snow quality is the best in Tahoe!

Mountain access is through the Gondola today, but you can park at the CA Main Lodge and shuttle over to the Gondola for free.

12/3/12 –  We’ve  opened Comet Trail and Comet Express!

Heavenly received 12” of snow in the last 24hrs and 2 feet to 3.5 feet over the last few days. Today will be excellent for all the winter enthusiasts out there to sink your skis and boards into some nice corduroy and fresh snow.

Please advise, Heavenly is on a delayed opening until 10am, due to de-icing.

With the opening of Comet Trail and Comet Express today, we are now offering 60 acres, and 4 miles of open terrain! Our snow makers took advantage of the colder temperatures last night, and they made snow in 9 different areas, including Pepi’s, Crossover, Red Fir, Big Easy, Von Schmidt, Tubing Hill, TOG, CA Trail and Maggie’s.
Thanks to Heavenly’s high elevation our snow quality is the best in Tahoe! Unbuckle après ski party rocks Tamarack Lodge from 3:30pm-5:30pm with 1/2-priced drinks and appetizer specials. Lifts open at 10am.

12/2/12 – More snow on the way this afternoon.

Winds are currently impacting lift operations and the mountain is closed for the day. Lifts open at 9:00 am tomorrow.

Heavenly received 1” of fresh snow overnight!  That’s well over 2 feet of riches from this storm!!  The forecast calls for colder temperatures and more snow today.

Tomorrow should be an excellent day to get on the mountain, as we hope to open more terrain. This first wave of snow puts a nice base over everything, and the second wave will drop some nice, fluffy snow on top.  We are very excited here at Heavenly.

Today is your last chance to purchase your 2012/13 season pass for access to Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood.  Visit a pass office today to purchase the best of Tahoe or visit the pass page on skiheavenly.com.

  • Ickjoo Choi

If Heavenly is closed due to bad weather condition like today, can Epic Value pass holders access to Northstar or Kirkwood without extra cost?

  • Ashley Smith

Hi Ickjoo! We responded to your question yesterday, but apparently our replies weren’t working correctly, so we’re sorry about that! With the Tahoe Value Season Pass, any day that is blacked out for Northstar or Kirkwood, like Saturdays, pass holders are welcome to get a day lift ticket for a discounted price at the rate of $50, at those mountains. If you have any questions on blackout dates you can always check here: http://bit.ly/SxS6LB, on our Season Passes page. There are no additional discounts because of wind holds at Heavenly. Thank you for your question!

  • D Breck

My son had class today. But we took the information we heard on the snow phone for face value and drove up from Minden for first chair and a couple of runs. If you are not going to open on time you should have said so and saved me the money and time. Your snow phone said and I quote “lifts are scheduled to open at 9:00 am. But it was after 10:00 before you loaded any one. So we got no runs. If you cant open three lifts on time after a small snow fall like that, with at least 24 hours of clear weather. How will you fare in a real storm with thirty plus lifts. As usual rotten service from Heavenly.

  • Ashley Smith

Hi D Breck. Thank you and I will pass along your comment! I can assure you that our Mountain Operations Team was working tirelessly trying to get the mountain ready to open today. Our Mountain Operations Team works 24/7, on the mountain, they even worked on the days that Heavenly was closed. Once our operations and reporting teams had the information that lifts were going to be delayed, they did their best to send out the message. They updated the message on the website at http://skiheavenly.com on the Terrain & Lift Status page and on the Snow and Weather Report page, on twitter @skiheavenly.com, on the Daily Blog, on our snow phone at 1-800-HEAVENLY ext 1 (aka 1-800-432-8365 ext 1), and on the ‘Daily Snow Report’ tab on Facebook. Normally when more terrain is open and there is access through the other three base lodges, we would recommend guests heading to the CA Base Lodge, or Stagecoach, or Boulder, and guests would still be able to ski and ride from there. Our Ski Patrollers are currently evaluating runs as we speak and we hope to open more terrain soon. Again, I will pass along your message to the appropriate personnel and I am very sorry that this happened to you this morning

  • Bill

when will more trails open up its rediculous

  • Adelawiese

Thanks Kevin,  My friends were up there when they found out it was closing and headed to 88 to meet me.  No wind, but the snow was fresh also.  Thanx for your message.  Yes, your local pass is Heavenly, NOW just to know which one to go to in the a.m.    G-ville girl

  • Adelawiese

Me and my friends were trying to find out since 7am if they were going to open, I went to Kirkwood the other 2 stood in line then after 10am when they did not open due to winds they rushed to Kirkwood.  Lifts opened at 10:30ish and the big one chair at ll:00ish.  NO WIND there.  Kirkwood posts at 5:30 am and are pretty accurate.  No charge as all 3 locations handle our Epic pass midweek…. (Tahoe Value)

  • Ashley Smith

Hi Bill! I hope you understand all of the efforts that go into opening up trails so they are safe for the public. Our teams have been working really hard and turning on the snow guns when temperatures allow. If you see today’s post, we’ve opened everything from Comet to Milky Way Bowl, including tree skiing, and I’m sure more to come soon! We now have 331 acres to ski and ride on. Like our GM Pete Sonntag said, we don’t have “early season conditions”, we only open trails when we have mid-winter conditions on them, so guests always get a great experience. If you get out skiing/riding today, I believe you’ll see that. I hope you get to go out and enjoy!!

  • theyreeverywhere

Get a clue Bill.   D Breck – go to Squaw.  Sounds like you’d fit in perfect with that crowd – arrogant and ignorant.  I bet you would be the first person complaining about the ice on the chairs or how  ridiculous (note spelling Bill) it is that they are running them.

  • Tom

how much more snow is needed to open both CA and NV base chairs so we don’t have to rely on the gondola to get up the mountain?

  • steve

Is there any place a person can get an unbiased assessment of the snow situation for Alpine skiing? Heavenly has a conflict of interest in that they try to put the best spin on things (e.g., the higher you go, the better the snow — but bring oxygen). I am considering cancelling my trip and returning in January or Feb because the weather appears to be in the 40s in Tahoe and if I want to cross-country ski and not have to pay the lift fees, seems like it will be impossible at Lake level.

  • Tahoelocal

from a locals point of view im saying you should cancle your trip we wont get anything worth while till the end of december its been raining for the past week definitly definitly come back later in jan or feb lake level is just getting rain and yesterday december forth my buddy who works for the grooming crew got sent home early because it was raining at the top! Kirkwood has more snow then heavenly right now but im pretty sure it was raining there all day also so come back when we get some real snow :)

  • Mmiller

I’m with Steve! Last year I destroyed my ski’s due to lack of the REAL white stuff. Heavenly sugar coats everything to get peeps to pay those craziii lift ticket prices to ski 2000 feet and only 2 runs. It’s not worth the trip/$$$ unless you can see a lot of pow pow at lake level.  The REAL snow will come!  patience young grasshopper’s…

  • RachelRoberts

Hi Steve- We work with Ski Patrol, Mountain Ops, Western Weather and snow stakes across the mountain to give you the most comprehensive snow reports. However it sounds like you are interested in cross-country skiing, and Heavenly does not offer any cross-country skiing access.

MMiller- Last year was tough for sure, but you must not have been skiing at Heavenly when you destroyed your skis. We won’t open a run unless it’s in top condition.

On that note… we plan to open the California side later this week! Stay tuned for details.

  • Ahnus Rahmer

Is Stagecoach on its way? Will it open this weekend?

  • Ashley Smith

Hello! We don’t have a specific date of opening for Stagecoach yet, but we’ll post it here when we know.

  • Mersh David

When will they open the rest of the mountain?
Will get there sunday and would like to see all open unlike last years thatbwasbthe dryest
In allmthe years that we’been going

  • Mersh David

Someone knows a way to get there from sacramento?
My son getsnonnan earlier flight and the only bus I could find
    Leaves earlier

  • Philip

Where was todays video filmed today  12-18….. it looks familiar but cant put my finger on it.

  • Bill

Will North Bowl chair be open this weekend.

  • tony

Is the north bowl chair going to be running? Your web site says it’s not, but why have the boulder lodge open with no way to access the rest of the mountain without having to jump on the stagecoach shuttle- I got stuck doing this last year and it was a bummer

  • HeavenlyMountain

Hi Tony- Thanks for your comment. We’re updating our communications now. North Bowl is down for maintenance today. Boulder lift and lodge will be running for beginner ski access and ski and ride lessons but will not have access to the upper mountain.

  • Nevadavoter1

As a long time resident/skier/instructor at Heavenly, I’ve noticed that the accuracy and timeliness of ski conditions on the mountain have really improved.  Thanks for the honest and straightforward status reports.
