Opening Day at Heavenly is just a week away and Mother Nature seems to be fully invested in making sure it goes off without a hitch. Last night we received 12-14 inches of fresh powder up on the mountain and we’re supposed to get up to 8 more before this system moves out.
Besides the natural snow, the temperature in Tahoe has dropped significantly. Yesterday morning it was about 39 degrees at mid mountain and today it is 16. That means our snowmakers are up and running big time, pumping out as much of the white stuff that they can during this cold snap. They anticipate a great weekend ahead and with even more snow in the forecast for early next week, we should be nice and ready for you on Opening Day!
Right now, the plan (weather and conditions dependent) is to open Cal Trail with some park features off to one side, courtesy of Heavenly Terrain Parks. And, so far, things are shaping up pretty well to possibly open Orion’s Run, our signature mile-long cruiser.
While, clearly, skiing or riding is the motivating factor for being here on opening weekend, the fun doesn’t stop there. The town comes alive with celebration, as we dive head first back into winter. Saturday night kicks off with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts in the Montbleu Showroom at 8:00 pm. And ladies can compete for a $500 prize during the Leather and Lace costumed after party. Harrah’s South Shore room will be host to The Average White Band at 7:30 pm, if funk and soul are more your taste.
We’ll keep you posted right here with all the latest details for Opening Day operations, so be sure to check back!
7 Days and counting…
Powder to the People,
