Living the Dream.
I found myself sitting on top of many mountains and domes in the Sierras this warm summer, as I hiked the Tahoe Rim Trail or climbed in Tuolumne Meadows. Dome-sitting is rather conducive to reflection and the window to my insides was never so clear.
A thought occurred to me one crisp June evening as I lay in my tent somewhere deep in the forest and it warmed me more than the increasingly common comfort of my synthetic sleeping bag.
I am not only “Living THE dream”.
More importantly: I am living MY dreams.
As a young girl, there were a few specific careers I recall rolling off my tongue when pesky adults would quiz me on what I wanted to be when I grew up (grow up, ha!).
There was the phase when I wanted to be an archeologist, but would have settled for zoologist, if you’d made me. All I knew is that I wanted to travel and get lost deep in the jungle somewhere. Then there was the oceanographer phase, when I thought it would be the bees’ knees to discover a new sea animal. And when I was even younger, I would sit for hours in the bathtub displaying my shampoo bottle in proper Barker’s Beauty fashion, highlighting to my imaginary audience the promise of the luxurious locks this particular shampoo could offer them.
Adventure. Discovery. Expression.
At Heavenly, I am fortunate enough to spend the winter having snowboard adventures on the mountain, coupled with summer adventures all over this fantastic range. My winters are filled with the discovery of fresh lines and the summers with new trails and peaks. And as a snow reporter for Heavenly, my actual job is to express my love for the outdoors and tell you, about the promise of the adventure, discovery, and sheer fun you’ll find on the mountain.
I truly am living my dreams and you can, too.
On October 20, 2012 from 9:00 am-2:00 pm, Heavenly is holding its annual job fair at the California Main Lodge and you have the opportunity to obtain a position that allows you to work and play in one of the most beautiful places in the world. It is required that you apply online before attending the fair, and most of the managers are looking to fill their positions prior to Oct. 20, so go online and apply now!
After all, “The most dangerous risk of all – The risk of spending your life not doing what you want on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later.”
Life is short. Live now.
