As crazy as it may seem, summer is coming to a close. The days are starting to get shorter, kids are going back to school and our thoughts are turning to winter. But we before we give summer the boot, let’s celebrate all of the fun times summer gave us.
This Labor Day, the Tahoe weather forecast is predicting an idyllic sunny, 75 degree three-day weekend. And we’ve got a ton of events going on to send off summer right. From the highly anticipated Heavenly Tent Sale to the Sammy Hagar concert, we’ve got you covered for a weekend full of summer fun.
Lake Tahoe Sternwheeler Race, Sep. 1– The Race pits South Shore’s two Mississippi paddlewheelers, the Tahoe Queen and the M.S. Dixie II, in a four-mile race along the shoreline. This will be the 20th matchup in the “battle of the paddle” with the Dixie holding an 11-8 edge. Passengers can sign up for either boat to enjoy brunch and onboard entertainment from actors impersonating famous Tahoe personalities.
Heavenly Tent Sale, Sep. 1-3– This Labor Day weekend, we put it all out there during the Heavenly Tent Sale for those looking for the best deals on ski or snowboard apparel, accessories, packs, boots, skis, boards, bindings, kids equipment and so much more. Make sure to head to Heavenly’s Cal Base to cash in on these screamin’ deals.
Sammy Hagar, Sep. 1– If you have not yet attended a concert at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena, now’s your last chance! No matter who is playing, these shows at this unique venue are spectacular – with a gorgeous Tahoe summer night and an intimate setting, there’s no better place to see your favorite act. And it is especially fitting that the final act to come rock the stage is the one and only Sammy Hagar.
Heavenly Mountain Run, Sep. 2- All-new for 2012, the Heavenly Mountain Run takes runners from the California Base Lodge at 6,565-feet up Maggie’s and along the California Trail to Tamarack Lodge at 9,150. Finishers will be greeted by cheering fans and enjoy post-race food, drinks, and activities for all ages. For more information and to register visit TahoeTrailRunning.com.
Fireworks Show, Sep. 2- This pyrotechnic exhibition explodes over Lake Tahoe after dusk every year and features a variety of patterns, shapes and designs. The lights reflect off of the Lake and create an experience not to miss. The show features a simultaneous music broadcast that can be heard on local stations KRLT-FM 93.9 and KOWL – AM 1490. Show begins approximately 8:30pm
Sample the Sierra Festival, Sep. 2- The 3rd Annual Sample the Sierra Festival is South Lake Tahoe’s only Farm-to-Fork Festival. The festival features El Dorado County wineries, breweries, artisans, restaurants and much more! Visit www.samplethesierra.com for the most up-to-date festival information.
That is quite a stacked lineup of events if I do say so myself! What are you doing to celebrate the final days of summer?
