When I lived in Chicago, IL, my workouts included treadmills, elliptical, weight machines and occasionally a run through my neighborhood. And let me tell you … it was B.O.R.I.N.G!
I couldn’t wait to get out of the city to an environment where I could truly connect with mother nature and work my body in more natural ways. I tossed my gym routine for days skiing, hiking, snow shoeing and stand up paddle boarding. Weight machines were swapped for throwing rocks, swimming in the lake and yes, even squatting fallen trees!
After exploring ways to get fit in nature, I couldn’t imagine going back to the daily gym grind. That’s why I was so excited to find out that Heavenly is hosting a “Mountain Run” here on September 2nd. What is a mountain run?
It’s a 5.8-mile run ascending from the 6,565-foot California Base Lodge to the Tamarack Lodge at 9,150-feet. There are two divisions – adults and kids – and the course will take you up the California face of Heavenly Mountain via Round a Bout. Then over to Tamarack Lodge where finishers will be greeting by cheering fans and enjoy post-race food, drinks, and activities for all ages.
With the rugged, natural terrain, challenging elevation climb, sunshine on your back and incredible views of Lake Tahoe along the way, I can’t think of a better way to get a workout in.
