The League of American Cyclists recognizes May as National Bike Month and to celebrate, avid cyclists and recreational peddlers alike participate by spending a little less time on the gas pedal and a little more time on the bike pedal. Bike to Work Week (part of National Bike Month) is winding down and we end the week by recognizing today as Bike to Work Day. Everybody has their own reasons for riding their bikes today…and every day!
Here are some of my favorite reasons for riding my bike around town:
* Save gas
* Reduce my carbon footprint
*Â Slow down & enjoy the scenery
*Â Burn some calories
*Â Fresh air
*Â Spend less time in traffic
*Â Stay in shape for ski season
*Â Ride with friends
If you’re not too familiar with bike commuting, here are some safety tips and rules of the road to keep you in check.
Tahoe Bike Month:
If you’re one of our neighbors up here in Lake Tahoe, we will celebrate Tahoe Bike Month during the month of June after several years of inclement weather during National Bike Month in May. June 4-15 will mark the 7th Annual Tahoe Bike Challenge, the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition encourages everyone to get out on their bikes, whether it’s for work, school or play. Click here for more information about Tahoe Bike Month.
I’m taking the bike challenge and I hope you will too. Now, let’s all get out and ride!
