My heroes: Heavenly Lift Maintenance Team

The months leading up to opening week are a hectic time for the marketing department.  But we’ve got nothing on the extremely hard working lift maintenance team who work all summer to prepare 29 lifts, with 1822 chairs, by 6 different manufacturers, across two states, for inspection and permitting.

I decided to spend a little bit of time up on the mountain with our lift maintenance supervisor, Andre, to get an idea of what is involved in this extremely technical and in-depth process.  The operative word here is “try.”  I furiously wrote down notes about NDT (non-destructive testing), hydrolics, sheaves, and jaws as Andre showed me the mechanical interworkings of one of our detachable lifts, Gunbarrel Express.  But at the end of the day, it was just all too technical for my predominantly right-brained self to take in.  What I did understand is that our lift maintenance team combs through every part, piece, and detail of each lift to ensure a safe and seamless experience for our guests.  The ultimate goal is as little mechanical downtime as possible during the season and last year we were up and running at 99%.

After visiting with Andre for about an hour, it dawned on me that although his team is one of the most critical pieces to operating the resort, they are also one of the most underappreciated.  When the lifts are operating seamlessly, no one thinks twice about what goes in to making that happen, but if there is a problem with a lift, it completely disrupts the guest’s experience and this team hears about it.

So I just want to take a moment to give a shout out to Andre and the entire team of lift maintenance technicians.  While the rest of us enjoy a little slower pace during the summer season, the lift maintenance team is busting their butts to make sure all of us aren’t walking up 3500 vertical feet with our gear over our shoulder when opening day arrives.

Thanks lift maintenance team!

Is there any person or team you would like to thank for making your experience at Heavenly a great one?  We’d love to hear about it so give a shout out…
