What it’s Like to Attend a Ski Academy

Heavenly’s youngest High Roller Team member is Brent Whipple, a 15 year old freeskier from a small town in central New York called Cazenovia.

Boy, does he have it rough! He’s spending part of his winter at Waterville Valley Academy, a five-month snowsport and academic program for 6th-12th graders who are pursuing the highest level of performance in alpine racing, freestyle skiing and competitive snowboarding, while still achieving academic excellence.

Now that’s awesome! Brent is working hard, but he found a couple minutes to check in with us and share some photos from his experience:

It’s been a busy but exciting winter so far, with more traveling and skiing then I’ve done in my whole life. After leaving Heavenly Mountain Resort, along with the best pre-season park I have ever ridden, I arrived at the Waterville Valley Academy in New Hampshire.

My schedule here is packed everyday, leaving me just enough time to sleep, eat, ski, exercise, and do school work. Being coached 6 days a week should allow me to progress more than ever, even on the icy east coast hills.

Although I’ll miss Heavenly and Tahoe, I hope this experience will allow me to step my game up for coming back West this spring.  Big thanks to Heavenly and Tall Treez Design for all the help along the way.

See you guys in March!

Brent
