The Heavenly hiking trails opened for the summer season today. Departing from the top of the Heavenly Gondola’s Adventure Peak, Heavenly offers three hiking trails including beginning, intermediate and advanced options. The hiking trails will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (weather permitting).
The Green Trail is the easiest trail and takes you to Upper Bonanza Lookout; it’s about a mile round trip. The Blue Trail is more difficult and takes you to East Peak Lake which is beautiful in the summer; it’s about 3.8 miles round trip. The Black Trail is the most difficult and it takes you to Sky Meadows (2.2 miles round trip) or to the top of Sky Express (1.92 miles round trip). These trails offer thigh-burning inclines but serve up some of the most beautiful views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding Sierra Nevada Mountains. Always stay on designated trails please.
Nothing beats going up to Heavenly in the summer and scoping the lines that you ski and ride in the winter time. Please be respectful to the environment at all times. We do not allow smoking on the mountian and fire-danger is high. If at anytime you see smoke or signs of a fire please phone the Heavenly operator at 775.586.7000 ext. 0. Also, please do not approach or feed any wildlife, pack out what you pack in and be prepared for varying weather conditions; they can change fast! Adequate footwear, a jacket, water, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and snacks are some items you may want to carry in a backpack when hiking.
Stop by the Ranger Stations at Adventure Peak to hear more about the plants and animals that live at Heavenly. They are also a good resource for geographical information about the Lake Tahoe Basin and the Carson Valley.
Look out for the Tahoe Draba plant species. A member of the mustard family, the Tahoe Draba is a high-altitude endangered plant species that is unique to this area. Please do not disturb these plants, they are precious to us.
Enjoy your time on the mountain!
