Terrain Openings Update
Hey, Gang. We’ve heard your comments about opening more terrain and don’t let it be said that Heavenly doesn’t answer its loyal customers’ needs. We’re opening the California side on Friday, December 11, and Stagecoach Express in Nevada on December 12. So here’s the scoop:
- We’ll open the Tram and Gunbarrel Express for access to the upper mountain, where we’ll have Patsy’s, Powderbowl Express, Canyon Express and Sky Express for skiing and snowboarding. We’ll most likely be looking at Ridge, Maggie’s and Patsy’s for trails. We’ll also have First Ride, the Enchanted Forest and DMZ for beginner lessons. We’re openig the Cal Lodge (including the food court, the Cal Bar, retail and rental), Sky Deck and Snow Beach.
- Over in Nevada, we’ll open Stagecoach Express with access to Comet and Dipper, and Olympic Downhill for skiing and riding. Stagecoach Lodge will be open as well.
- By my unofficial count, we will have 170 acres and 13 miles of terrain open for skiing and riding. We’ll also have connections from California to Nevada and vice-versa.
The recent snow has been huge, but it’s the West Coast’s Largest Snowmaking System that continues to give us the best conditions in Tahoe.
Check out today’s video of conditions. The snow is immaculate, but it also helps to have two of the PSIA’s National Demo Team skiers ripping it – beats having the PR guy do it! I’ll also give a Heavenly hat to the first person that correctly identifies Heavenly’s two demo team members.
Remember, season passes are still on sale only until this Sunday, so pick yours up now. It’s the best deal for the best snow surface conditions at Lake Tahoe.
Hope everyone has a great time out there! Remember, this snow has been very light and dry, so the trees may look good, but there are hidden obstacles out there. Be patient and stay healthy – we’re going to have a lot of epic skiing and snowboarding this season!

Robin Barnes & Michael Rogan sure look good ripping it up!
December 9th, 2009 at 3:37 am
Demo Team members – 1st instinctive guess would be Mike Rogan & Robin Barnes …. But I’m only on my first cup of coffee. Happy snow day!

Russ, you and your staff are the bomb. I’m coming in from NYC this weekend. I was really worried that my first west coast trip of the season was going to be a wash. I didn’t want to come out there for just 6 trails. Thanks for making it happen!

Thanks for the update. Looking forward to the weekend.
December 9th, 2009 at 7:40 am
Woooohooooo! Keep those blowers pumping. See you in a few days.
December 9th, 2009 at 8:08 am
Where are maggies and patsys? I don’t see them on the trail map?
December 9th, 2009 at 8:37 am
Jason is our winner! Roin Barnes and Michael Rogan are long-time instructors at Heavenly and also part of the PSIA National Demo Team. I think you’ll all agree that they can turn ‘em!

Chris – Maggie’s and Patsy’s are on the California side, at the top of Gunbarrel Express. Patsy’s is accessed via Patsy’s Chair. Maggie’s is accessed, most commonly, by Powderbowl Express.
December 9th, 2009 at 8:52 am
will there be any park features on the california side?
December 9th, 2009 at 9:39 am
Good to hear that
December 9th, 2009 at 10:18 am
Wow Russ, great news! Time to hop a stagecoach! Giddy up!!
December 9th, 2009 at 10:32 am
You guys are the best! We all get so excited this time of year that sometimes it is hard to be patient. Then, when we get what we want, we forget how it got there! So, let me say here and now, to the entire crew at Heavenly, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
December 9th, 2009 at 11:16 am
so there are THREE heavenly riders. Russ, what about JOSH SPOELSTRA?
December 9th, 2009 at 11:18 am
Hi, Russ, Thanks a lot for the update and THANK YOU HEAVENLY!!
One question, by saying that you will be opening the Sky Express and connections from California to Nevada, does it mean you will be opening the Skyline Trail?
December 9th, 2009 at 12:23 pm
Thanks guys!!! Keep up the good work I cant wait till the whole mountain’s open.
December 9th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
You’re right, Mac. The snowboarder is California Ski School Supervisor (and fellow Star Wars fanatic) Billy Newman, who also rips. I like when he puts the elbow on the slope – Warren Miller-esque! Josh is indeed on the Demo Team as well, but didn’t do this video. He did the first two conditions pieces.
December 9th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Yep. Skyline will be open (unless you’ve got a super-secret back way of getting from CA to NV).
December 10th, 2009 at 11:40 am
Hey Heavenly!
If I get a season pass today will I be able to use it this weekend? It looks like season passes get mailed to me… but then it won’t make it in time by tomorrow.
Should I just get a season pass on Saturday?
Thanks!!

Melody – Go ahead and pick one up at either of our pass offices – the Gondola or Cal Lodge. And have fun out there!
