New Terrain Openings
Blaise and Casey just got down from the mountain and it’s official – Big Dipper will open tomorrow! Check out the attached photo – it’s mid-winter up there and the skiing and snowboarding has been AWESOME! With Big Dipper (actually, about 2/3 of Big Dipper – after the break you take the little road that hooks back into Orion’s), we now have 50 acres of terrain and almost FOUR MILES of terrain. Comet is close, and, hang onto your hats, jibbers, we’re working on some terrain features on Cal Trail! Nobody at Lake Tahoe has as much terrain open as Heavenly does right now. Another shout out for the snowmakers?

That is awesome! Last Saturday the mountain looked great, thanks Heavenly for doing such a great job.

wow you guys really opened with no jibs?? lame……so glad i didnt rush to buy my pass before you opened

The snowmakers are INCREDIBLE. Edge-to-edge coverage on everything and top-to-bottom runs on each of the open chairs. Honestly, you can’t tell the difference between this stuff and natural snow. Just great.

I don’t wanna be greedy but do you know if any more terrain will be open in 2-4 days? And how much longer for the terrain park?thanks

Wow guys! It just keeps getting better! Thanks so much for all your hard work. C’ya on turkey day!

Hey Russ, Forecast is for wind on Thursday. Are we talking wind hold winds?? or just a nice mountain chilling breeze?
November 24th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
I’m sad I can’t ride =(
November 24th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
Yes snowmakers, you rule, now all we need is some Divine help so we can get off into the trees!
November 24th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
Yay! looking forward to the new terrain! hopefully even more for the holiday weekend! see you soon!

only mountain open without terrain park features. wow you guys are brave
November 25th, 2009 at 2:27 am
You guys are doing a great job considering how little it has snowed. Keep up the good work, and pray for some of that snow that Whistler is getting (14 feet and counting)

We arrive Dec. 8th love reading that more and more of the terrain is opening. Big Kudos to your incredible Snowmakers!

Northstar, Boreal, and Mammoth all have parks………….. come on people.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:24 am
how much are the lift tickets considering only 2% of the mountain is open?
November 25th, 2009 at 10:30 am
That is a bit strange there is not even a small park. I guess it was a choice between open on-time or open late with a park. Oh well! Can’t wait to get on the snow tomorrow.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:36 am
“wow” Your a hater!
November 25th, 2009 at 10:37 am
Big ups to the snowmakers
November 25th, 2009 at 4:28 pm
Geeez, quit whining they have been open for 4 days and they had already started making a park, was riding today and the jumps are built up, so should be open in a couple days
November 26th, 2009 at 8:39 am
To the complainers,
I skied Heavenly last Saturday and Northstar last Sunday. OK, some of the park was open at Northstar but the conditions at Heavenly were MUCH better. These guys are doing a great job and won’t open until the trails are good. They deserve a compliment.

Hey kids who are whining about no park. When you dont have alot of snow, its hard to build a park. Keep that in mind next time you ride a jump, that its made of snow not rocks!

Anybody have a clue how much a day pass is right now? I have spent an hour going through heavenly sites and can’t find the answer.
Not sure if this is deceptive marketing or they just don’t know how to run a website.
And no I can’t call them since it’s after hours
November 27th, 2009 at 11:55 am
Ace – There are two places to check the daily ticket price. The Tickets and Passes main page, and the Lift Tickets page. And don’t think you’re going crazy – they weren’t there an hour ago. This functionality was misplaced during the transition to our new site. But we like to make our customers happy, so it’s back!

“…we have one of the largest snowmaking systems on the continent at the ready, covering 70% of the mountain.”
Yet less than 2% is open…and we’ve had perfect snowmaking weather for weeks! Vail Corp. just plain SUCKS…Lies, lies and more lies. Come on Vail Corp. put your money where your mouth is and make some snow.
You’ve proven for years that you can’t build Half Pipes or Super Pipes or even open on time for powder days. We know time are tough, but please stop lying to us and fulfill your marketing promises.
The day that 70% of Heavenly is open on man made snow is the day the Vail has sold it to someone who actually cares about skiing. In the mean time, I’m sure you can give us some excuses as to why you can’t use the “largest snowmaking system on the continent”

whaa! whaa! and more whaaaa! at least they are open and finally built a legit terrain park. although i must agree vail does suck. remember before vail heavenly would compete with boreal to see who could open first and didnt close so early sometimes one of the last to close. those were the good ol days.
