Opening Day Recap
What an opening day. The weather was perfect, the sun was shining, Lake Tahoe was incredibly blue and the snow was A-MAZING. It’s hard to believe that the wind was blowing in excess of 100mph yesterday and it was dumping snow. I guess that’s why we live in Tahoe.
The snow was truly incredible today. It was soft, extremely edgeable and perfect for carving. Heavenly’s snowmakers deserve another round of “thank yous” – I don’t think there is another mountain that, with no real storms over the last month, could match our opening in terms of quantity or quality of terrain.
I’ve added some photos in this blog, but for all the photos, check out the gallery. And then there’s the video. Dane and Chris have really outdone themselves, and for those of you who follow HeavenlyTV, you know that’s pretty hard to do.
We’re going to continue making snow tonight in an effort to open more terrain, but it looks like a pretty strong inversion is coming in that will stymie our efforts for a couple days. So pray for some snow, or at least some cold temps, and we’ll let our snowmakers do the rest.
Now for the shameless plug – if you want to come spend Thanksgiving on the slopes, we’ve got a vacation package that gives two days of lifts and lodging, cooked-to-order breakfasts daily AND a Thanksgiving feast for a screamin’ rate. Come carve up the slopes and we’ll carve up your turkey (or tofurkey, as the case may be)!

Hi, I think you need to modify your website. It is about as user unfriendly as possible.Your homepage should have current mountain status or at least a way to get this info without deciphering the DaVinci code. Check out your old site format, it was much more user friendly but do not stop there. Play like your a skier looking at the site and what info you would like to have before heading up the hill and put it front and center without the major search hassle.Whats the deal with the blog to get get any pertinent info? Thanks for the great snowmaking!

The conditions were fantastic! The best opening day I have ever experienced. This will be the last full season I can spend with my daughter and every day means alot to me. I would like to thank the Heavenly staff and the hard working snowmaking crew for a great early opening day.

Came up Friday night, and had a great first snow day on Saturday. The sky was the clear and she sun was shining. Thumbs up to the Heavenly crew for their work on the grooming and snowmaking. The conditions on the few runs that were open definitely blew me away. I was expecting early season conditions, but enough powder for carving. Definitely looking forward to getting back up there. Hopefully the Sky Express and California side will be open by then.

Heavenly the king of wind hold. We came up to SLT on Saturday night looking forward to skiing on Sunday. At 8:00AM the weather looked good, but resort employees wouldn’t commit on lift operation or possible ticket price.
I guess Heavenly will only operate when there is lots of money to be made and long time loyal customers don’t mean much in their grand marketing scheme.
Anyway we found out Northstar was open All day Sunday and had very good skiing for $45.00 after wasting half the day waiting to see if Heavenly would open. Your lift ticket price was $59.00 on Saturday, but maybe that still was’nt enough profit. Could you please just tell us early in morning ,if you don’ think it will be profitable to open so we can go somewhere else and enjoy the day skiing. Thanks alot.

Stan,
Skied Heavenly on Saturday and Northstar on Sunday. Heavenly was definately better. You should have stayed and skied heavenly. Heavenly would probably not have opened if they had the conditions Northstar had. Scratched up my skies on some rocks.
