Opening Day – Postponed

Hey, gang. Looks like the strong winds in advance of this pending snowstorm have forced us to suspend operations today, postponing our opening to tomorrow, Saturday, November 21. On the bright side, we’re expecting about a foot of snow from this storm, which should allow us to open more terrain and kick off 2009-10 with a powder day! Hang in there and I hope to see you on the mountain soon!

    Russ:

Thanks for the post. It is a bummer (including a bummer for Heavenly also I am sure) but is totally understandable. Keep safety first.

  12. John Says:

Traditionally what are the traffic conditions heading up to Heavenly on opening day? I ask because my friends and I are heading up and want to know what time we should leave our homes.

  13. Diana Says:

Looking forward to hearing about the new snowfall. Will be up there skiing in two weeks! :)

  14. Albert Says:

Sweet..ill be there sunday! ready to try out my new board

  15. Russ Says:

John – kind of depends on where you’re coming from. Most folks come in Friday night after work, so that’s a really bad time to travel. It takes 3.5 hours to get from San Francisco to South Lake Tahoe. Give yourself an extra hour for traffic, and if you leave early, expect some delays for snow removal on 50. If you’re coming from Reno, it’s any easy 1.5 hour drive.

  16. Steezer Says:

Ya Buddy! Lets start it off right with a powder day. Can’t wait!!

Well i spent 35$ in gas driving up and back to Sacramento with Kevin, so im a little irritated. Not at Heavenly, at the circumstances. Im not sure yet if it’s worth another 40$ to drive up and back tomorrow. Im in college on a budget so money is a big issue for me.

  26. Zak Says:

Totally stoked for tomorrow… shread the pow!

  27. Canaan Says:

Where could I get my photo for my epic pass tomorrow? Go to any ticket booth or is there a certain lodge I should be lookign for, thanks cant wait for some sweet turns tomorrow!

  28. Kim Says:

Do they discount lessons as well as tickets due to conditions. We will be coming up and have two children 8 and 10 we want to put in a lesson.

  29. coyote rick Says:

Not to be denied! OK, lifts shut, no problem.
Hike to East Peak lodge on dirt, stage and skin under lodge. It’s been snowing (and blowing) since we started. Two to three of fresh @ bottom of Orion,s. Skinning up, still dumping. By the top 5-6″ freshies now. Fool around for a few and off we go. Untracked, almost boottop, freshies for a true “Opening Date”. By the bottom, enough to ski Way Home to the bottom. NOT TO BE DENIED

  30. Ben Says:
