Snowmaking Update

Snowmaking Update

Sorry I’ve been negligent on the updates – I’ve been on the road spreading the Heavenly gospel to points far and wide. Barrett and his guys were able to make snow all weekend and the mountain is looking great! Check out this photo of Cal Trail, taken last Friday (BEFORE we made snow all weekend). Again, I can’t stress enough that we’re all about the snow surface – it’s going to be deep and tree-to-tree. Easily the best in Tahoe. We’re feeling “cautiously optimistic” that we’ll open November 20.

To take advantage of this snowy goodness when we open, you’ll want to make sure you have your Heavenly season pass. We’ve also got an AMAZING deal going right now – three nights of lodging and two days of skiing for $135 per person. Not per person per day. PER PERSON. That’s like $45 a night! That’s a deal, my friends.

We have never been to heavenly before and are planning on being there for opening day. Would you mind updating the grooming map, or listing the slopes that you are making snow on – so we have an idea of what ot expect. thanks!

Rus, Nice job! 2 questions I’m going up with about 15 of my friends the weekend of Dec 4th. How many runs will you and your group have opened by than? We are staying by stage coach is there any coverage over there and what is the likely hood of stage coach being opened?

  11. sav Says:

Hey i will be commming up for thanksgiving. Do you think groove will bo open?

  12. Jake Says:

GO MAN GO!!! We’ve got a group of 40 coming up for a week over New Years and this weather has been making me nervous. I feel comforted knowing you guys are on the job :)

  13. Dan Angst Says:

Jessi…i’m not a Heavenly employee, but with my years of going to Heavenly I kind of have an idea of what will be open. Usually they open the Gondola, Tamarack Chair, Big Easy, and Dipper Chair. The main runs they usually have is Orion run and California Trail from the top of Tamarack to the top of the Gondola Station. Orion is usually the main one that people use cause it’s pretty long. It’s a mile long run from the top of Dipper Chair down to East Peak lodge. Hopefully they’re able to get enough snowmaking from now to opening day to get Orion open. Otherwise it might just be the California trail. Now this could all change if there’s a huge storm obviously. In that case they can open a lot of terrain from the natural stuff.

I have lost hope in the weather report but i am fully confident in the snowmaking at heavenly! 24 days till i arrive, and i hope that the snow will make my trip worth while all the way from the UK!

  15. Chris Says:

Correct me if I am wrong, but I do believe that there is natural white stuff on all 3 cameras this morning. Let the Snow Dance continue!

  16. jake h Says:

looks like theres snow how come thers no snow shown on the moutain snow report

  17. Eric Says:

I love how they are really on top of things. I can see snow on the ground, but I guess none at Heavenly. Pretty poor for a large resort. Please let us know what kind of amounts you have seen up there on the mountain.

  18. Russ Says:

Jake and Eric – That’s a fair expectation. We’re working on it. We’ve got a new web site and we’re still working out some of the bugs. We’ve got three to four inches of new snow up there, but you’re absolutely right that we should have the snow report functioning at this point. – Russ

  19. MIKE Says:

EMMM!! SNOW! I CANT WAIT TO SKI!!! HOW ARE THE SNOW
BUNNY’S? IF YOU NEED HELP ROUNDING THEM UP LET ME KNOW!!! EMMMM!!! SNOW!!!!!!

  20. John (in FL!) Says:

Looks good. I’ll be there for the first time in way too long the weekend before Christmas (by myself on business in Reno and Sacramento). By then, you’ll be crazy deep, yes??!!

  21. Jessi Says:

    Thanks for the info Dan!

  22. jhb Says:

will you have a park open on friday or should I plan on going to Boreal

  23. jeffrey Says:

Hey Russ, is there really not gonna be a halfpipe this year? And whats gonna happen with powderbowl park? Hearing rumors. Thanks

  24. Russ Says:

Jeffrey – we’ve touched on this one before – until we are able to put a halfpipe in the ground, we’re not going to have one. It takes too much snowmaking in an area where we don’t have the equipment. Sorry. There will still be plenty of fun to be had in the parks – Mike Thomas and his team have been creating some really cool recycled features this summer. – Russ

  25. jeffrey Says:

Sorry I didnt see this subject yet, but thanks for answering 1/2 my question. By the way the park guys are great! They just need more room to work with. See ya Friday!
