It’s Snowing at Heavenly – Photos Included!

Hey, gang. As most of you are probably aware, winter has arrived at South Lake Tahoe. We got about three or four inches at Lake level and about five or six inches at the top of the Gondola. Hope you’re all prepared with your gear and your season passes! Check out the photos and be sure to visit the streaming Gondola cam (FYI, the Gondola’s not running today, so it’s not doing much)! Keep thinking snow!

And to think just last weekend I was sitting there in shorts and t-shirt soaking up the sunny 80 degrees watching the empty gondolas go up and down. Well, now those gondolas won’t be empty much longer. Woo Hoo!

Hi. I am a foreigner. I am arriving early nov, leaving on 22nd. Is Heavenly open if it continues to snow? I see that many are waiting so eagerly!!! Thanks in advance for your advise! : )

  12. Russ Says:

Angie – our projected opening date is November 20, 2009, weather and conditions permitting. Keep checking the blog and we’ll keep you up-to-date.

I’m also from overseas – coming over from the UK to San Francisco for work so am trying to tag on a weekend of snowboarding in Tahoe on the 21st/22nd weekend.. Will Heavenly be the best place for that do you think? How likely is it that the resort will be open? Need to book my flights this week! Thanks for any help guys :)

Will be travelling alone so any help would be really appreciated – i’ve not done any boarding ouside of Europe so a little nervous about making the trip on my own!

coming up again from san diego in feb. can’t wait.

  15. Russ Says:

Carl – we’re slated to open on November 20. That’s always weather and conditions permitting. Heavenly prides itself on opening with the most terrain and best conditions, so I’d say that Heavenly would be a great place to come, if we’re open. – Russ

  16. Carl Says:

Thanks for the response Russ, guess its just a case of fingers crossed then for the snow! How far in advance do you usually know 100% when you’ll open up?

If I was to book a package through this website for hotel, lift pass & equipment, what would the cancellation policy be? i.e. if it got to the date and the resort won’t be open, would I be entitled to a refund?

  17. Russ Says:

Hey, Carl. Based on my four years at the resort, it usually ends up being a game-time decision. As I stated in a few earlier blog posts, we’re all about quality of the snow surface and quality of the experience, and we won’t open unless we’ve got mid-winter conditions on the runs we open. That said, we do have the West Coast’s largest snowmaking system and, under the right conditions, can go from dirt to skiable in 24 hours. The other thing we’ve got going for us is that we’ve already received some snow – and it’s snowing at the top of the Gondola as I write this – so I’m hopeful for November 20.

The great thing about booking with Heavenly Tahoe Vacations is that they’ll refund your trip if we’re not able to open (save airfare, which we have no control over). No other online travel site would take care of you like that. Our slopeside travel agents are all locals and know all the best places to stay and will lead you in the right direction. – Russ

  18. Carl Says:

OK – I’m pretty much sold!

So just to confirm, we will get a full refund on all accommodation, ski passes and equipment hire if booked through this website if the resort doesn’t open that weekend?

Looks like 3 of us might be coming up now so as long as we’re entitled to the refund I’ll get booked up asap for the first 3 days and 3 nights of the season!

    Let it snow!

  19. Geri Says:

We’ll be there in March – moved to Virginia last year so can’t get up to our condo at Grand Residence as often as we used to – but can’t wait!

  21. Andy Says:

i cant wait for the season to start!! I’ll probably be driving my friends up so I am super excited. We’re thinking about getting a season pass. How much are they for 17 year olds and will that price change as the season progresses? Thanks guys can’t wait!!

  22. Russ Says:

Hey, Andy. We’re excited for the season, too. Our Teen Heavenly Pass (13-18) is $299 through mid-December. Drive safe and we hope to see you and your crew up here all winter long!
