Opening Update – Just Two More Nights of Snowmaking!
Hey, gang. I know you all have been looking for info about opening – I wish we could be more definitive, but we’re doing the best we can and we don’t want to set expectations and have people disappointed if we don’t meet them.
With that said, we had a fairly decent weekend of snowmaking and it looks like we’re only two really good nights away from being able to open! Again, this is based on us getting the right kind of weather and conditions for snowmaking, but all the forecasts say we’re looking good.
Here are some photos our VP of Mountain Operations took today:

As you can see, we’re really close, but we still need a couple of strong nights. To recap, we’ll open as soon as we can, but it’s dependent on the weather and us making more snow. The West Coast’s largest snowmaking system has our end covered. Mother Nature just has to do hers – and we’re not even asking for snow, just cold! C’mon, Ma Nature! Help us out!

That snow looks good! Hopefully we will get some of the real stuff tomorrow, but seems like most of it is going to SoCal.

So you say two good days of weather. Does this mean you may open for Thanksgiving?
November 25th, 2008 at 10:24 am
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!! Looks like those of us going up for Thanksgiving might get lucky! I bought Ma Nature flowers for Mother’s Day, so maybe she’ll be nice.

okay tourists listen up! Heavenly usually opens with two runs, Comet and Dipper. They are fairly long runs with a beginner park somewhere in the mix. The only access to the mountain is through the Gondola for the first few weeks. I love it when stagecoach and boulder open so I can walk from my house on S. Benjamin!

Since the Face and Waterfall won’t be open for quite some time please tell us that your blowing on Little Dipper?? That would make us local Bumpers VERY happy

Hi all,
Four of us were having a nice break in a quiet Tahoe Village “home” on Nevada side on weekend till today, and hiked 2.5 hours on the Tahoe Ridge Trail off of the Stagecoach run Monday before the sun went down. When we saw 3 Heavenly trunks going past as we came down the trails, I knew they must have been the snowmaking guys! Good work and ready to go soon!

What about employees working on the Nevada side at Boulder this year. Should I sacrifice my Thanksgiving with my family or should I not? Thanks, Dan

Any idea what are the chances that Heavenly will be open on Thanksgiving or Black Friday?
November 26th, 2008 at 9:52 am
If you open I promise not to make any yellow snow!
November 26th, 2008 at 11:13 am
I was at Heavenly on Thanksgiving last year (Nov 22nd – Nov 25th 2007) and had this fear that they wouldn’t open on that weekend but they did. I’m sure we’re all will be ok this year as well especially when they just got hit with colder weather. Hope this helps.

November 26th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
Ok just open on Monday when everyone has to go back to work so its not thousands of people on one run. And how about an idea of when the opening would be instead of saying there was 161 hours of snowmaking.
