Season Opening Update

Hey, gang. I’m know there’s been a lot of chatter about opening day, and I apologize for my delayed response. As most of you have guessed, we are NOT planning to open this weekend. We will open as soon as possible, base on the weather. Please stay tuned. We’ll keep updating the blog to keep you in the loop.

We are making snow whenever conditions allow, and when we do open, we will have the most consistent snow surfaces and deepest snowpack of any Lake Tahoe resort. For the season, the West Coast’s largest snowmaking system has put in over 100 hours, so we feel like we’re in pretty good shape once the weather turns cold again.

Maybe everyone should go out and wash their cars. The collective power of that act could break down this high pressure system and bring some weather. Maybe “danimal” can get that organized.

Keep thinking snow and please keep checking here for updates. If all goes well, I hope I’m seeing you guys on the mountain soon!

well come thanksgiving we will begin to see a major low trough build in and see a very unsettled weather pattern known to California for this time of the year and should see a couple feet of snow by the end of thanksgiving weekend. :)

Hey dude, can’t you be more specific, I’ve already boughted my air ticket, and I was planning to be there by thanksgiving… Could you tell me what are the chances that your mountain will be open by nov 27th? I still have to buy lift tickets, and if I don’t do this by tomorrow I’ll loose the e-ticket discount, What do you suggest?

  6. Chris Q Says:

Isn’t this the same thing that happened last year? Well I’ve been there the day after thanksgiving and I plan on doing it again this year.

  7. Paul Says:

I lost EVERYTHING in hurricane Ike.
I’m coming from Galveston, Texas to ski Thanksgiving weekend.
I bought the pass and I don’t mind even just ONE run open…
I need something to get my mind off of everything…
    PLEEEEEEASE!!!

  8. Lemmie Says:

I washed my Pathfinder for the first time in months this past weekend. If that doesn’t do it, I don’t know what will!

  9. DaDude Says:

Will your resort open by Nov 27th? I already paid for the hotel and rental car. JIC I need to cancel my reservations, can you give me the answer before this weekend?

  10. Tim Says:

Heh, at least you guys didn’t already get non-refundable reservations for this weekend like I did. A few friends and I will be driving up and will enjoy watching the mountain be closed :(

  11. tahoegnar420 Says:

dooders, get some touring gear and hit the goods anyways. If there is snow, ski. Don’t wait for an “official” opening.

    “cough” carson pass “cough”

  12. Britta Says:

In the mean time I guess we just have to party. I’m contributing by going to 2 pray for snow parties this week, then Bobofest this weekend :) ***think snow***

  13. foodfreq Says:

There is a great invention that the British created. Its called a “dry ski slope” It requires no snow and can be enjoyed year round. If you don’t mind wrecking your knee’s on wire brushes, this is the obvious solution. At least you would get some action. Oh, and I’m just so “STOKED” man for some real flakes!!

  14. Jeff Says:

Come on guys, open up one or two runs, the nights are cold enough to keep a couple runs open aren’t they?

  15. foodfreq Says:

I had a shower, does that count?

  16. babev Says:

booked hotel and everything already for thanskgiving weekend. pray.pray.pray for snow!

  17. Jonnie Says:

I have plans in place to ski at Heavenly starting on 12/8. I’m coming from the mid atlantic east coast where one of the resorts in this area just had over 29″ of snow! Go figure! I hope it dumps huge out there around Thanksgiving. I’m glued to the weather sites praying for a turn in the forcast.

  18. Grant Hanlin Says:

Open Saturday!!! making me drive to Boreal!!!

Let it Snow Fat Pow Pow!!!

    Good Season!!! G Unit

  19. snowman Says:

It seems like the weather is getting colder. Is it cold enough for snow making?
    Really want to ski…

  20. steve Says:

We are praying here in Australia aswell though we dont come till NYE..still a huge base would be great..snow please snow

  21. Ryo Says:

It sux but hey..they want people to get their money’s worth and not wreck their bodies or their gear. Trust me here. Three year pass holder. It is always worth the wait.

  22. Charles Says:

I’m going up on Thanksgiving, too! Man, I’ve been trying to get up to Heavenly for years, and now that I’m going you guys gotta open up some runs! And I’m not talking about sick to the stomach, squirt out the butt runs, I’m talking about some snowboarding runs! DO IT!!! Especially since I can’t cancel my airfare or hotel. Not that drinking and gambling can’t occupy my nights, but what about my days? No turkey and no slopes make Charles something something….

  23. Charles Says:

Anybody know the pros and cons of renting a car vs taking the shuttle from Reno airport? My flight is supposed to land at 11:25 pm and it looks like the last shuttle leaves at 12:30 am

  24. Eric in Fremont Says:

Sad but understandable. People have already started asking me why I have been driving around with skis in my car.

  25. The Snow Rabbit Says:

    Thanks for the update,
get the snowmakers cranking when temps cool down! hopefully we will see heaps of natural snow come down soon!

  26. Rossen Says:

I already planned my trip for Thanksgiving Day! Do you think you gonna open by then? Hope you will!!!

  27. danimal Says:

  28. danimal Says:

    snow dammit snow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. pat Says:

Thanks for the updates and all that you people do. Heavenly is a great resort. For all those who book non refundable snow trips in November, don’t. Looking forward to the FOGS meeting every morning at the tram. Stay Heavenly….

  30. Tom Says:

I was able to change my reservations from the 21st to the 27th. When I called the the guy at the hotel (Horizon)laughed and said that I wasn’t the only one doing this. He said that it’s been cold enough to blow snow but the warmer then usual weather this past weekend screwed up whatever the snow guys had made the prev week. Does anyone else on this blog that lives around Tahoe know what else is/may be open on Thanksgiving weekend? Sierra? I’m gonna be pissed if I drive 5 hours expecting to board and only find the casinos open? But hey, at least I know the bars will be open….

  31. CBJ Says:

I hope you’ll be open by 12/5. Flights and rooms booked. In past years how has the first week of December been?

  32. dumpdaze Says:

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

  33. Dak Says:

    i totally agree with loyd
i got my new boots and bindings two days ago and i was super stoked just to up and shred this weekend.
And i dont feel like spending the money to ride one run at rose or spend the money in gas to go ride boreal or mammoth.
but we all know the heavenly guys are workin hardd to open as soon as possible

  34. BogartOfElCajon Says:

Although we won’t be there until Xmas week, I am already so anxious for you guys to open and see some actions. I guess this is the year I’ve watch more weather channel and feeds than “The Price is Right”. All cabins and rentals are booked, work vacations set, snowboard gears ready, MRE’s packed… I just need to find my ticket :(

  35. benicia boy Says:

Wow, you guys are about as horny as they come for some schnae!! Well, if “they” would just do something about this global warming stuff, maybe we could get bak to how it was “bak in the day” when we’d have 2-4′ on T.Day.
In the meantime, i’ll just keep riding my bike around Fallen Leaf and lunch at The Beacon. Carson Pass is skied out anyway.

  36. Ride tAOS Says:

What ever happened to Heavenly “first to open, last to close.” No doubt you will open on Thanksgiving for the tourist dollar, but locals are BLACKED OUT on those days. Pray for snow indeed and i’m keeping my fingers crossed.

  37. dgunns Says:

i hope all of you have a crap load of snow this thanksgiving. THINK SNOW!!!

  38. JW Says:

already book the cabin and car rental for thanksgiving, so PLEEEEASE snow, or at least open something…. PLEASE~!

  39. Tom Says:

Hey danimal – since it appears you are the closest to Heavenly do you mind keeping the rest of us anxious people in the loop on this blog as to the weather/snow fall up there? PLEEEEEESSSEEEE. I’ll buy you a few beers (asuming you’re legal to drink) when I get up there for your effort. I’m sure the rest of the people that look at this blog daily for updates (as I do) would also appreciate it.

  40. jibber530 Says:

i live at the cal base also there is practically no snow on the face but where they plan to open is on the other side of the mountain. if were lucky we will get some snow next week. the low temps are down in the teens and twentys so they are probally going to be able to make snow every night proceeding opening day. be patient this winter is going to be epic.

  41. jibber530 Says:
