Heavenly Terrain Parks Will Rock this Season!!

Hey there Heavenly skiers and riders,
This is Mike Thomas, Heavenly’s Terrain Park Manager, here just giving you guys a little update on things to come for this season. My crew and I have been working REALLY hard since mid-July on LOTS of NEW features and planning for new layouts & ideas. We are all geared up and ready to go this season… just waiting for Mother Nature and our great snowmaking crew to get us going; a little less than two weeks away from our November 21 opening date. I know many of you have been asking about the Comet Park and yes, it will be our first park to open. For those of you who don’t know it is located in NV off of Comet trail.
There are lots of new features built for this year that I want reveal; but I don’t want to spoil all the surprises for you guys. To give you an idea we have built roughly 15 new features (including a new line of Earth-friendly recycled features). We also added a new area in Heavenly’s advanced Highroller terrain park that will be filled with larger features for your enjoyment instead of a halfpipe. Each park will house its own unique feel & features; Hint- you’ll get the idea once the NEW terrain park website launches. I think everyone is going to be really happy with all the park changes & direction we are heading with our parks. It’s a New Era here with the Heavenly TPC.
Take care, think snow and c ya on the 21st!
Mike T.

No half pipe this year? Seems like it was only up for a week last year too. Sup?
November 11th, 2008 at 11:10 am
Parks are going to be SICK! hopefully snowmaking in the parks are Priority this season. Parks =People & $. cant wait to shred comet park …opening weekend??
November 11th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
finally they realized that the pipe was way too much money and it was never dope. Put up some sick jibs!
November 11th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Thanks to Mike Thomas and all the Crew for getting the parks pimped out for the community of Riders!
Cant wait to check out the new features
November 11th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
Does that mean Heavenly will NOT have a halfpipe this year at all?
November 11th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
So where is the pipe moving to? Groove park or off Tamarack would be my vote.
November 11th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
Totally excited about the new features! Does this mean there will be no 22 foot half pipe?! Or it will be somewhere different this year. Please can the 22 footer and give us a nicely shaped and groomed 18 footer everyone can have fun on!

The park last year was ridiculous. Who paid for the cost? It was way too big for ANYONE to ride.
I wouldn’t mind one of those small half pipes Alpine would build.. it’d be great for beginners to learn on and if people wanted a bigger park, they could go to Sierra.
Bring back that park line on the Gondola side.. and keep the Comet going during the season. Sucks when you are on the Nevada side and you have to leave to hit some jibs.
Some music at one of the parks would be cool.. and I wish we had a water station at Mott’s. :-/
November 12th, 2008 at 8:53 am
In my first sentence, I meant half pipe.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:18 am
No pipe this year… SWEET! It has never been Heavenly’s thing. That means they can use all the extra snow for more jumps and jib features! Hopefully Heavenly will soon realize that a really good park attracts riders/people/tourist which = $$$$$$$$!
November 12th, 2008 at 11:22 am
Wow. These parks and pipes came along too late for me (44), but they sure look fun!
Just once I’d like to spin around on a snowboard 30+ feet in the air.
Ahh youth is served…
Cheers!
November 12th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
Yee! I think the pipe was way to ruff and no one hit it except the gapers cruisin through. I know all the lil park rat kids are gunna be super stoked… and i like to see mike and all the TPC goin all eviromentaly friendly.
November 12th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Heavenly needs a smaller pipe. A 22 footer is dandy, but you need something smaller for the average rider. Mammoth does it right with a mini pipe, super pipe (17 ft), and then the super duper (22 ft).
glad you just scratched it though cuz it was never good anyway. also i agree that NV needs something more than the rarely offered tamarack boardercross. keep a jib small jump line on comet. when i worked there lessons in NV had to go all the way to CA if someone wanted to learn park, that’s a huge cut into someones private lesson time.

Better no pipe that a uber expensive, unridable abomination. Save your pesos this year and get it right next year please.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
The pipe that was at Canyon was a bit awkward, but eliminating any pipe from the resort cannot be good for the Heavenly brand; every major resort has one.
I happen to love the pipe. I don’t want to think that I’m missing out on something by going to Heavenly!
Heavenly IS my favorite resort – please just relocate it somewhere, not eliminate it!
November 12th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
So that 100 foot long 22 feet high feature was a half pipe last year? The Soldiers setup was sick, but that ugly hp was just in the way…
November 13th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
We can not go without a half-pipe! But I suggest a pipe around 16 feet or so, that will actually get use. Rather than being the place with the biggest stuf (which nobody can ride comfortably), lets be the place with the best stuff, like a well managed, 16 foot half-pipe, which people can actually see daylight out of.
November 13th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
hey u guys had some fun stuff last yr and i loved riding there on days sierra wasnt puttin out its usual line. I know its hard building a park, ive built a lot of stuff myself. but i just ask you to realise what your better, bigger features are and set em up that way. that 40 ft downhill rail on highroll was a waste last yr, it was 3 feet off the ground, but you only had to ollie 2 inches onto it.change a few things like that and id rather make the five min drive to heavenly than the half our drive to sierra i made every day last yr.
November 13th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
well Heavenly owns a 22ft cutter. you cant make a 16,18 or any other size real pipe below 21st cause you’d have NO vert. the only thing they could do is a mini pipe with for beginer with no vert.
November 13th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
HP cutters come in 13, 18, 22fter’s not 15,16 and so on with out dirt work or snowmakin where the pipe is this new idea Heavenly is doing is the RIGHT thing to do until those things happen. does anyone want to ride or BUILD a bad pipe… i dont think so… I am stoked for this years parks and all the hard work the guys are doin. keep it up!
November 13th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
I think a half pipe everyone can learn on would be mucho loved. I don’t know why Heavenly doesn’t solicit feedback from visitors. They should have surveys on mountain!
November 13th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
id be down for a smaller pipe but we need the soldier set up year round!! or atleast when it snows. lets take a vote for the pipe and for a soldier setup all the time not just late season?!?
November 14th, 2008 at 10:26 am
so the pipe was not the best last year (to much $ to make to tall not long enough), but that doesn’t mean we don’t like to ride a pipe! just make like a 17ft or even a 12ft hp, the flow of a pipe is unique. I will be vary sad not to ride one at the heave this year. PLEASE BUILD A HALF-PIPE!!!!
November 16th, 2008 at 11:57 am
i agree heavenly simply just dosnt know how to build a good pipe and some of high roller is just rediculous, nice spelling huh. just build quality park(s)and they will come. or does heavenly like the reputation of the worst park in the basin.listen to the locals at least for this one thing
November 16th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
I think Heavenly needs to regrade or dig out a halfpipe somewhere over the summer. Otherwise the pipe takes so much snow to build. I also agree that the old 22 foot monster was impossible to ride. I think a good pipe off tamarack is key. Also like 16 or 18 foot is plenty high. Keep the pipe right near the gondola so family and friends can get a view as well.
November 16th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Please progress into better features, look and Northstar and Sierra. Heavenly bites as a freeride mountain, the only reason I come here is I live down the street, and and to hit the park before work. Glad that crappy half pipe is toastied.

inman here with a side question. ok a totally unrelated question. but has anyone heard an official update on whether the 21st is even possible at this point? my gut feeling and from the look of east peak cam is- aint no way. anyone hear anything?
November 18th, 2008 at 9:50 am
I just called. They said it’s weather dependent and they won’t know until Thursday afternoon.
November 18th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
no way 21st nov. will be possible unless they want to make snow 24/7 which i doubt will even compensate at all!!! I say at least around thanksgiving.
November 18th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
I noticed my comments regarding this thread was deleted. I want expert runs groomed at least once a week for us old folks with bad knees. We have money and we spend it. I have skied here for almost 40 years and I do not like being censored.
Groom East Bowl and Little Dipper for the old farts.
November 19th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
Big Kickers and a giant giant wave hit in High Roller would be dank!!! The jibs sound sweet as well!! General Grant
