Heavenly Voted One of Top Ten “No Car Needed” Resorts
It’s the time of year when all the top ten lists are coming out, rating just about anything you can think of within the travel industry. Well, we’re happy to announce that OnTheSnow.com recognized Heavenly and South Lake Tahoe as one of the top ten “no car needed” resorts in the entire world! You can check out the article here.
What the article doesn’t say is that the Heavenly Gondola is within walking distance of about 5,000 hotel rooms, multiple five-star restaurants, two cineplexes, spas, shopping, all-night dance clubs and casino gaming. And that over half a million people ride our low-emission shuttle buses every winter!
On a completely unrelated note, About.com rated the bathrooms at the Gondola Observation Deck as the sixth highest toilets in the world. Pretty “heady” stuff!

That’s awesome to hear you were #7 in the entire world for “no car” for winter (and summer…) resorts!

True, Heavenly is “no car needed”, however, the system has room for improvement.
Febuary ‘07, I skiid for a week, without a car.
I flew into Reno, and took the Tahoe Express right to where I was staying. That went smoothly, though a reservation, which I had, is a
necessity. The bus was full.
What i found disappointing was the shuttle buses
running to and from the base areas, Stagecoach, California lodge and the Gondola.
They did not even come close to running on time, or with the advertised frequency. At one point, after waiting for more than 45 minutes, I made a call, and within 5 minutes a big school bus shuttle came and picked me up…I was the only one on it. A suggestion would be to have a few smaller vans on more of an on-call basis….
Also, I found that while Go-Blue buses were not
officially ski shuttles, and they charge, some of the drivers would accomodate, while others did not seem to want the skiers. It was a bit confusing, the free Heavenly busses vs. Go Blue.
I did enjoy one Heavenly bus driver who gave a little history lesson about the first casino, and a bit of the area’s roots. By no means let my coments scare you off…I guess like any mass transit system, be prepared for some waits, and dont be afraid to ask questions. Most people seemed very willing to to help.

Used the gondola restroom many times
Have to say however most of the hotel rooms in Breckenridge have toilets even higher than 9,000 feet.
