Stormin’ at Heavenly!
I don’t know how people live in So. Cal! I can’t imagine waking to sunshine everyday and 75 degree days in December. The chill in the air, the wind in my hair as I race down the Face, the snowflakes on my tongue and the Chip Shot by the fire, that’s what I live for. Anyway back to the point, we are in the midst of a full-blown storm up here in Tahoe. The skies are dark, the wind is howling and the snow has started. I have the feeling in my knee that this is going to be the one, the big one. If all goes well we will be able to open more lifts and access more terrain this weekend. Start making your Bay Area evac plans now, you know, the pack your gear in your car and skip lunch on Friday to leave an hour early plans. I know that powder turns are going to be all the rave this weekend and you wouldn’t want to be left out! Who’s with me?

I don’t think that it’s fair to say everyone in SoCal wakes up to 75 degree days in the winter. I actually live in Southern California, but up in the mountains near Big Bear. It does actually snow there and we actually have ski resorts and everything! It’s really quite similar to Tahoe except it’s about 5 degrees warmer at any given time with many more sunny days. Smaller ski resorts and a little less snow though
That being said, I’ve been skiing all over (Vail, Whistler, Mammoth, etc) and Heavenly is still my all time favorite place in the world. No other place in the world can compare to the beauty of Lake Tahoe from the top of Sky Express after a fresh dumping of snow. I can’t wait for my trip there in March!

Dear God. This is the big one. I’m looking at my station’s doplar right now and there are HUGE precip bands about 20 miles west of the lake and heading east FAST! Its absolutely saturated and will be cooling rapidly and dropping as the clouds rise over the mountains. It will be dumping by the time you guys are reading this at. At 7:35-7:45 or so be ready for the drop because it should start about that time.

Is the Olympic (new) chair ready to run?

I didn’t mean to hurt any So Cal feelings, I love So Cal and spent a year at Snow Summit! I didn’t see a lot of snow dumpings, but hey I was only there a year
Yes, Olympic Express is ready to go. Heavenly Ski Patrol finished the final evacuation training and we are hoping to open it very, very soon!

It’s cool dude, don’t worry about it. I’m definitely looking forward to the new Olympic lift too. I always loved that part of the mountain, but I never spent too much time there because the lift ride was painfully slow. I hope you guys get the full five feet of snow! Man I hate having to wait here while you guys get dumped on and hope that we at least get a few feet.
