Opening Update – 11/20 – Snowmaking Begins!
Gooooooooooooooood morning, skiers and riders! Great news, the West Coast’s largest snowmaking system put in 14 quality hours last night, blanketing Orion, the top of Comet and the top of the Gondola area. I just got down off the mountain with some AMAZING snowmaking photos. Check out the Mountain Snapshots. We’re still making snow as I write this at 8:30am, and we’re hoping to keep it pumping throughout the day. If this cold weather holds, we’re shooting for a Friday, November 23 opening. Keep your fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed (everything but your ski tips!) and with any luck, we’ll all be carving on Thanksgiving weekend!

Isaiah — good to see another Texan coming to town! The lil’ lady and I are flying in from Lubbock for the weekend. We usually ski Vail, but no snow there this year!
Question: that snow sure looks deep. Will I need to rent them fancy powder skis for Friday?

Bubba K. Zellweger from De Funiak Springs, FL expecting to make landfall in scenic South Lake Tahoe on Friday night in my 97 Cutlass. If you see me on the slopes say hi to Bubba. I will be rocking the snowblade 99.9s with a green and pink one-piece by Nevica with the avalanche beacons sewn into the arms. I have the Salomon SX92 boot as well.
Looks like I’ll be needing em with all that snow. YEE-HAW!!!
November 20th, 2007 at 1:51 pm
Hope to see you there Bubba! Since y’all have them avalanche beacons built-in, y’all want to do some backcountry skiing? I got me a Zircon 60371 that I’ve been dying to try out.
November 20th, 2007 at 1:57 pm
Bubba- You sound like you’re going to be hard to miss. Rock on.
November 20th, 2007 at 2:10 pm
Zircon…priceless
November 20th, 2007 at 2:29 pm
Giddyup!! Anyone know how far Heavenly is from Fresno? I thinking about trying out snowboarding. I can almost make it down my driveway on my nephew’s skateboard without falling so I should be good to go, right? I’ll be rockin’ my blue jeans and a Raider’s jacket. Be sure and shout “Wazzup!” if you see me.

I’m also rockin no poles this year so ill be tryin out some new hand drags. Say whats up if you see me I’ll be wearing A White Orage Masters one piece (not like an old school gaper one peice) wit sally spk boots a bern baker helmet and a red bandana skiing on a pair of ninthward butterlicious. see yall on the slopes
November 20th, 2007 at 7:43 pm
Just the Orion slope. Not enough! You all know what has to be done: Help me freeze myself in the same manner as Cartman until the snow has come in and all of the mountain is open. And make sure you don’t pull a Butters by losing my location, only for me to be revived when global warming has taken its toll and snow seasons no longer exist.

Thats so awsome cant wait to make my first turns of the season. been dying to get back out there since april. Keep up the great work and lets all pray for snow. Jon G unless youve skied before dont think blue jeans will cut it for snowboarding. I spent almost the whole first day on my rear and knees learning how to snowboard. you might be a more then a little wet and cold by the end of the day. But ive got to tell you its really addictive and very fun.
November 20th, 2007 at 10:10 pm

Wohoo, that is wonderful! Thank you heavenly snowmaking crew. I am very happy to be able to ski this weekend. Heavenly is outstanding. This is a difference that Heavenly made in comparison to other resorts.

Can’t wait for the snow! I was hoping for the opening day to happen last week so I could have hit the snow for my birthday, oh well! It will be here soon enough! Can’t wait to hit the slopes with my K2 Apache X skis again (and my tie dyed cord ski pants). God I miss the snow. I feel almost as free skiing as I do when I go Paragliding!
November 21st, 2007 at 10:05 am
“rockin’ my blue jeans and a Raider’s jacket.” Now that is funny!
November 21st, 2007 at 11:04 am
I skied Snakepit at Mott Canyon in ‘97. I actually went to have a look at it and fell in. One of my skis came off right at the top and nobody fetched it for me. I stayed at the bottom, shouting for help for mebbe three hours.
Is Hoss Hog’s still open?
November 21st, 2007 at 12:44 pm
Will the moguls be taken out of storage for opening day?
November 21st, 2007 at 3:46 pm
Are the snowbikes going to be available for rental. And on an unrelated note, are there any comps for snowbikes scheduled for this weekend big-mountain or slope-style(cuz I do both)?
