Brent Abrams Checks in from Breck

Hey Everyone,

Well the season has started in Colorado; I moved out here Nov. 10th and was skiing on the 11th. The 11th was the first day I had skied in 7 months [which is totally unusual]. For the past 7 months I’ve been rehabbing my knee; I had two surgeries last spring. My first run felt horrible; my knee ached, my ankles hurt in my boots, and the rest of my gear was really uncomfortable. However, by the second run everything was back.

I’m skiing at Breck. They have one run and one chair open, which is perfect. I’m just skiing groomers this month, so it’s all I need. The skiing has been fun lately. My friends from Japan and I rented a house in Breck for the next few months till the contest season starts; 3 of them are here now and 3 more come in at the beginning of December. We ski all day, play paintball in our backyard, have daily poker games, and go to the recreation center during the evenings. It’s a lot of fun. The last time we played poker the first loser had to play two rounds of paintball in their boxers; we never thought about the weather, and getting shot with paintball guns, in your boxers, when its 40 degrees is really bad; I’m glad it wasn’t me. Plus, it was impossible for the poor naked guy to camouflage himself in the forest, lol lol lol.

I signed with 3 Japanese ski companies this summer: Strictly Skis, Goldwin Clothing, and SIGR8 gloves. All the gear is very high quality and I’m really excited starting the season with new sponsors and new gear. The change is very comforting in addition to it being an incredible improvement.

I’m really looking forward to testing my Strictly Brent Abrams Pro Model 173 ski. I’ll start testing my pro model by late December.

I have to bare through the boredom of skiing groomers this month and focus on getting my leg and knee strong again. I build muscle like Rocky Balboa so I’m not worried. My training schedule is right on track. I can’t wait for the contest season to start. I am very excited about how comfortable my skiing has become. It’s all coming back really fast. Next month I’ll start jumping and riding the pipe. I’ll be home [Tahoe] for Christmas and New Years; by then the skiing will be good in Tahoe, even if the weather doesn’t provide any snow, since Heavenly’s snow-making abilities are so great.

And, in even greater news, I played in a poker tournament in Central City, CO yesterday and placed 2nd. I won $200 and then placed a $200 bet on the Patriots, in the over, and right now I’m looking really good. Boston is killing it this year – Go: Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and the Boston soccer team.

Take Care,

Brent
