Snow Conditions / Opening Day Update

Hello, skiers and riders! Just wanted to give you guys an update on current conditions as they relate to opening on Friday.

We received eight to 10 inches of snow over the weekend and had a good night of snowmaking last night. We’re expecting a trace of snow this afternoon and evening, after which the clouds are expected to clear for the next few days and we will be prepared to make snow as conditions warrant.

At this point, our goal is to open on Friday, Nov. 16 with portions of the upper Nevada side, but it is dependent on the weather cooperating. We will continue to update you daily over the next several weeks as conditions change.

Skiheavenly.com will be updated daily with the latest information. For those of you who want to monitor the situation yourselves, you can check out the Dipper and East Peak web cams.

I first learned how to ski at Heavenly Valley in December 1970. I got a high school student season pass for the 71/72 season for $175.00. However, I have been skiing Squaw for the last 33 years. I haven’t skied Heavenly since 1975. I would like to ski Heavenly again. I saw the link for hotel, lifts and rentals for $59.00 and I can’t find the link on your Home page. Could you please advise where that link is on that page as the I am trying to link to the special. Thank you.

I have a chance visit Tahoe 11/25 to 12/1 and stay at a friends place. What trails is snow being made on? How many trails are planned for opening day? Will it be worthwhile to come from the eastcoast?

    thanks for your comments

You stated that you will probably open with “…portions of the upper Nevada side…”. I am new to the Heavenly ski area, as such what runs might this include?

  5. Meteorologist Says:

Computer models have a hard time with of series of storm line up over the Pacific. Looks like we will be getting the tail end each storm starting Wednesday night into the weekend, at this point looks like the higher elevations will get little perception each day. Computer models having a hard time deciding with this high pressure, but a cut-off low has developed off the coast of Southern California, which may help to break down this high pressure and along with the series of low pressures extending back into Japan. Best bet for perception will be Friday night into Saturday, again in Saturday night. Saturday’s storm looks pretty impressive with strong winds ahead of the cold front, looks like the higher elevations may see hurricane force winds at the upper ridges, will monitor this, at this time, confidence is low.

when are all the trail normaly open?.

  9. Mark Says:

Everything opening depends on conditions. With some of the best snowmaking around, we can get a lot open pretty quick, weather permitting. A lot depends however on Mother Nature.

I`ll be in Heavenly for Xmas holiday and I`d like to know if it`s usually in good conditions of snow during this week. I also would like to know how cold it is. I can barely wait to be there.

  11. Rob Kornet Says:

I have lodging set already. Do you guys have any smoking deals on just lift tickets and rentals for this weekend and next week?

  12. Ryan Says:

I was up at my cabin near stagecoach on Sunday. Woke up to the darn dog wanting to go out. Turned out it was worth while because to my surprise the snow was flying. Such a treat to see snow this early. Heading back up next week for turkey day.

Can’t wait to hit Heavenly. Last year was amazing and Heavenly came through with epic conditions, and having all man made snow. Looking forward to what they have this year. Heavenly seriously lives up to their word by offering the best opening conditions in Tahoe! There is no doubt they will bring their A game!

  13. Steven Says:

hope the rain picks up here in the bay so it snows in tahoe :/ is there a site for cabins in south tahoe?

  14. Mickey Says:

I live in San Francisco. Took a day trip to South Lake Tahoe today and checked out the weather.

I’ve had reservations @ Harrah’s for next week (Nov 20-26) for the longest time. I pray that it snows cause I spent last month updating my gear for this year and can’t wait for next week. If I can’t get powder, I don’t know what I’m gna do.

  15. john cole Says:

Hey. I usually snowboard at sierra at tahoe but my friend and I are looking to get on the moutain soon. Can u keep me posted on if you do open friday?

  16. Steve Says:

Hey. I just booked a room for Dec. 17-21, do you think the conditions will be good? I have never been to to Tahoe and wanted to try Heavenly.

  17. Meteorologist Says:

Latest models show a 50/50 percent of snow Friday night into Saturday for the higher elevations, some location may receieve up to 8+ inches above 8000 FT. Ahead of the storm mild condtions apply, but snow level rapidly dropping down to around 5500 FT, but really depends how much moisture is pumped after the cold front moves in. Expect valley rain/shower in the lower elevations.

  18. Penn Says:

wow its pretty sad to see the snow melting in the web cams! i will be getting there by 4th of Dec, and hope to see everything whity…

Hope this doesnt mean that will be a bad season… keep on praying to the snow and weather gods
