Glen Plake’s Words on the GB25
Once again the Gunbarrel 25 is an event to remember! I want to say “Thank you” to all the competitors for helping shape this event into what it is. I also have to “Thank” the Heavenly Departments, race, food, and marketing – for your help. Especially want to “Thank” snowmaking and grooming for preparing the slopes so well back into December – “you guys are the real heros this year!” I don’t know what to say but I get charged up every year to see the enthusiasm towards the GB 25 all the kids that continue to enter, the way Janez follows effortlessly down the course – you’d never know he’s winning it! – watching the over 60 crowd entering to be “part of the event” but don’t plan on finishing it only to see them on lap 18 digging deep towards the finish line or how about “that clown” – litereally – from Iowa, out for his 2nd year!
This event fits nowhere in todays ski world amidst the 5 second UTube world, or the overproduced music festival that happens to have some skiing somewhere around the “party”, no the GB 25 is just good ole fashioned true grit ski all day ski along! Which is what I think the sport is!!!!!! Thanks for helping to fuel my passion in being a part of the Gunbarrel 25, “It is never to late to start a new tradition!”

WELL,WELL,WELL, THANKS FOR THE GREAT TIME WITH YOU MOGULERS IN HEAVENLY. I AM BACK IN IOWA . DON’T YOU REMEMEBER ME? I SKIED WITH YOU,APRIL 7TH,ALL DAY. WHAT A GREAT DAY ! I COULDN’T WIPE THE SMILE OFF MY FACE FOR A WEEK. I JUST LOVE SKIING WITH OTHER BUMP SKIERS, THE JOY IS TWICE THE FUN WHEN IT IS SHARED FUN. AND WOW DID THOSE BUMPS GET SOFT LATER ON OR WHAT?! I WANTED TO SKI THE NEXT DAY THERE AGAIN BECAUSE THE BUMPS WERE SO GOOD.WAS THAT SUNDY,THE LAST FACE RAT DAY? WE DROVE HOME THROUGH PARK CITY AND WINTER PARK (GREAT BUMPS & A HUGE YEAR-END PARY DAY) THANK YOU GLEN FOR RIDING UP THE CHAIR ME. DID YOU KNOW GLEN WAS SKIING ON AN OLD BROKEN PAIR OF SKIIS MOST OF THE DAY? HE DIDN’T EVEN SAY ANYTHING ABOUT MY MOWHAWK. I DIDN’T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT HIS EITHER.
I HAD THE TIME OF MY LIFE! THREE OF THE FOUR OF MY DESIRES CAME TRUE :
1) SOFT BUMPS
2) POWDER
3) ANY BUMPS
4) (personal)
SO TILL NEXT YEAR, KEEP IN SHAPE.

Attempted GB two years ago (tired old man in orange jacket) and will try again this year if I remain healthy. Hope you don’t have to move the event off of Gunbarrel because of low snow this year. I’ve reserved 4 April and hope to come up from Mammoth at least once before for practice.

Hey Glen,
I’m hoping to make my way out to Heavenly this year to give the GB25 a shot. I’ve called heavenly to see about registration but they said it wasn’t open yet. Is the event still planned for the first Saturday in April?
