Glen Plake Checks in From Europe and Beyond

Wow, I’ve been living out of the same suitcase for over a month. It’s convention time in the ski industry world, from Vegas to Munich with Vermont and Slovenia in between. It looks like I’ll be spending time in our bed by Monday. yeehaw. At the moment I’m at the Elan factory doing what every skier dreams about – picking up brand new skis.

Had a great race camp, seeing someone like Christian Mayer to continue to dedicate himself to skiing after 20 years of the World Cup circus is admirable. Being in Austria while the World Championships were going on in Sweden was comical, Austria was not doing well and it was like 911 was in our papers – 6 pages of “Catastrophe!” was the headlines. They sure love skiing there. Went to the Dalbello factory for some work days, I am continually trying to make ski boots better – more modern – and Dalbello supports my ideas.

I am stoked. Made it to Chamonix and killed myself yesterday, first day back to the big hill, hooked on with some friends that have been skiing everyday for the 5 weeks I have been in conventions…. yeehaw….Nothing like diving into the deep end without testing the water… I am finally back online now and checked up on Heavenly conditions and sounds like mother nature has dropped some snow! I swear that the calendar needs to be ignored when it comes to snow time, like all of us Californians know March is coming….. so keep the powder skis waxed. I am headed out for a few days/nights in the mountains and hopefully will come back with a Chamonix classic completed under my belt. Kimberly and I are feeling a little home sick, we need our Gunbarrel afternoons… the comradery felt while skiing the face is very unique, and can’t be found anywhere else. Ski one for me, and I’ll do the same!

A’plus….Glen

Great report Glen! We are coming over to Heavenly next week all the way from rainy Scotland. Never skied in California before so we are looking forward to it especially the Gunbarrel. We have a Gunbarrel in Scotland but it’s pretty small. Hope to see you skiing around and about..

Hey Glen.. Wow.. You have made it a long way with your life..awsome. Many people will only have dreams and not act on them, but you did not follow those dreams, you hunted them down and made them happen. Congrats on what you have made of yourself. Your old friend from many moons ago…Nick from the childhood days when we lived off Al Tahoe Blvd. in that little nook of homes.
