Heavenly’s Nightlife Terrain Park Hosts JackPot Rail Jam

The Only JackPot Rail Jam This Season That Can Qualify Participants for Sessions Log Jam Event

Heavenly Mountain Resort, Calif./Nev.

Feb. 13, 2007 – Heavenly Mountain Resort will host this season’s only JackPot Rail Jam event on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. in the Nightlife Terrain Park on World Cup at the California Base. This event can guarantee the top ten star participants a spot in the upcoming Sessions Log Jam to be held March 23-24, 2007. The JackPot Rail Jam will be held under the lights in conjunction with Heavenly’s Nightlife Terrain Park. Registration is from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Race Department Office at the California Lodge. The event is limited to the first 50 participants to sign up, so day registration is suggested. The entry fee is $5 and the event is open to any skier or rider with the guts to attack the web of features the Heavenly Terrain Park crew has created. There is $1,000 purse, with cash being awarded to the best participants.

“The contest will be held on the last feature in the Nightlife Terrain Park called Snow Island,”
said Heavenly Terrain Park Supervisor Michael Thomas. “However, there will be a new twist for this event. We’ve built a multi-use feature for all abilities that jibbers can get creative on.” The Snow Island is a mish-mash of features with four different entry features from three different angles, all heading towards the center of Snow Island where a 7-foot-by-12-foot Cheese Wedge Wall Ride stands for innovative tricks, stylie handplants and old-school slashes. Competitors then choose between a 20-foot flat down rail and a 16-foot down rail to complete their run.

The event will be hosted by the Heavenly Terrain Park Crew. DJ Dingo, a.k.a. Skier Ben, is going to be the DJ for the evening. The “Fierce” Keirce brothers Nic and Kris will MC the event, and three other park staff members will act as judges. “The judges will be scoring on overall impression,” said Thomas. “They will be looking for creativity of tricks, use of the features and consistency. Style never hurts either!”

The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. with 50 competitors, which will be reduced to 25 competitors within the first half hour. At this point, ten $20 bills will be given to competitors at random who execute the best tricks during the next half-hour jam session. The recipients of these $20 bills will qualify for the Sessions Log Jam event in March. From 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. the jam will continue and five $20 bills will be given out. Immediately following this segment of the jam the overall winners will be announced and awarded prize money; $300 for 1st Place, $200 for 2nd Place, $100 for 3rd Place and $100 will be awarded to the best contestant under age 15.

Heavenly Mountain Resort will offer skiers and riders four terrain parks and one super pipe this season. Heavenly’s parks are designed to help riders progress from beginner to expert, with features designed for each level. High Roller is located off the Canyon chairlift on the California side and is for advanced riders. It is also the home for the South Shore Soldiers camp each spring. The High Roller Super Pipe will be located on Lower High Roller Trail, just below the terrain park, and will be Lake Tahoe’s largest pipe, cut with Heavenly’s 22-foot Zaugg pipe cutter. Powderbowl Terrain Park is located on Upper Powderbowl run off of Ridge Run and is for intermediate riders. This park is a perfect transition for improving skills to prepare for the High Roller advanced park. The Cascade Boardercross will be located off the Tamarack chairlift on the California/Nevada border. It features burms, whoops, step-ups and table tops for the experienced rider. Nightlife is Heavenly’s nighttime terrain park, located off the World Cup chair at the California Lodge, and open Friday through Saturday, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Groove is Heavenly’s beginner park, located between Groove and Patsy’s chairlifts on the California side.

I heard jackpot rail jam was a huge success and it’s great you are blogging about it, but I just heard you guys opened up your halfpipe this weekend. Where is the entry about that! If you need me to run up there tomorrow, test her our and write something up, you let me know. I just assumed new like that would be featured on the home page!

ya we are all very excited about a halfpipe finally. its been a tough winter, but you guys got her going. heavenly should totally have a regular halfpipe too though. one halfpipe being 20 feet and nothing smaller makes it impossible to progress. just a thought. maybe a 11 to 13 footer or even a regular superpipe around 17 feet.
