Glen Plake Checks In From Europe
I have been skiing with former World Cup Champion Christian Mayer in Austria before my trip back home. It was his first experience free skiing in 20 years! It really was nice to see someone who has devoted so much time to a training hill still loving the feeling of sliding on skis…. and even though he was a Euro racer he had no problem adapting to off piste coullior skiing, world cup skiers are our sports greatest regardless of their discipline.
Got home to Tahoe for great skiing, the Gunbarrel had just opened with 100% man made. Then off to the Industry trade show, great to see all the new things that the ski industry comes up with every year. Got to ski at home with my niece for a day. I arrived the night before at 2 AM to what looked like groomers on the face. I thought – uh oh – that’s either going to work or not. It worked! The next day we had man made moguls all the way down East Bowl. Insane skiing. I sound redundant but this year Heavenly’s snow making/grooming crew deserves all the credit for the great skiing we have, make sure you let them all know their efforts are appreciated. It’s not like the snow falls out of the sky or anything hahahahaha…
We are on the east coast for some on snow demo days. While I don’t mind a night in the car every now and again, (and we do it every now and then), the last few nights have been in the Mt. Washington Hotel – built at the turn of the last century. Very classic, at the foot of Mt Washington, this historical landmark is a real treat and I cherish the opportunity to stay here.
Gunbarrel 25 will be upon us April 7 this year – it’s just a good ole 25 this year! Looks like we have a base that will last and Feb and March haven’t dumped their load yet … the event is even well known back here in the East, I am so proud of the effort that every competitor puts in every year to make GB 25 happen. Wish I was home to set up some public race training on World Cup, but I am not*
All for now, talk to ya later, Glen

Hey Glen,
Glad to hear you are back. Bet that was awesome. We are arriving in Tahoe Saturday for the week. Glad to see the conditions are nice. I am kinda use to manmade snow. Last time i saw you was at Beech Mtn, NC. Hope to see you out there again.

Hey Glen,
My wife and I met you and Kimberly at the Mt. Washington Hotel in New Hampshire in late January. It was great sharing some laughs about various misfortunes we have both experienced with our aging automobiles. But what was truly great was meeting people of your and Kimberly’s stature in the skiing world who have absolutely no hint of arrogance or being stuck on yourselves. Thanks again for taking some of your down time and sharing it with a fan. Hope to see you back east again.
