Snow Report from Snowmaking

Barrett Burghard is Heavenly’s Snowmaking Manager. He weighed in with his take on what conditions are like and where to find the best places to ski on the mountain:

“This is Barrett. I’ve been working at Heavenly in the snowmaking department for twenty years. Conditions on the mountain right now are awesome. Best in the basin. Mother Nature hasn’t really been helping us out, so we’ve been making snow by the boatload. We’ve got the largest snowmaking system in the basin and we’ve been giving it a workout.

We’re not just making snow, but making QUALITY snow. The snow we’ve been making on The Face is so good, we call it “butter” because you can carve through it so smoothly. Especially on The Face, we’re able to make such sweet snow because of the automated fan guns; they take the human error out of the equation. We just decide what quality we want and dial it in – and we get a consistent product top to bottom.

Our snowmakers are so good at making snow because they’re into skiing and riding. They know what kind of snow the guests want. They’re not just snowmakers, but skiers and riders, too.

Heavenly is definitely the best place to be skiing right now. The upper mountain is good, but East Bowl and Gunbarrel are the best skiing around. Come on up and check out our work. We’re really proud of it, and know you’ll have an awesome time skiing or riding around.”
